Preemies

25wk 3 day preemie

Hello there...I just had my son 4 weeks ago. I was 25wk 3days and not expecting this at all- as my 1st pregnancy went full term. I haven't gone to my ob yet but have tons of questions as to WHY this has happened. "short cervix" and something about tunneling? is something the doctors mentioned to me. any insight on this?  my sons weighted just 1 lbs 14 oz at birth and now hes about 2lbs 10oz. so far so good but I know we have a long journey ahead of us. I  just pray every day and once he does come home he'll be healthy.

  • Just want to send a hug for I went through a similar experience. My baby was born 25w4d weighing 1lb 15.5 oz now he is 3lb 2.7oz if your ob tells you why it happens can you come back to let us know? I'm curious and I can't get an answer other than "it just happens".

  • It very well may have been IC & funneling.  When I was pg with DD I started to have red spotting at 24 weeks.  I went to my OB the day after it started & was sent to a MFM for an ultrasound & sure enough I had short cervix & funneling.  I was told that most women that have IC don't know about it until after one or more late term losses.  I was on bedrest for 12 weeks & my DD was born at 37 weeks so 1 day short of being a preemie.

Good to hear you LO is thriving.  I'm not sure if they will be able to give you any solid answers since your LO is already here; however, if you do get pregnant again I would make sure that no later than 10 weeks your cervix are measured via vaginal US bi-weekly & if they do see shortness and/or funneling then you need to have a clerclage put in & may have to be on strict bedrest.  GL

  • Congratulations on the birth of your son! I'm glad to hear that he's doing well so far.  I'm sorry that I don't really have any information on IC.  Welcome to the board!
