Anyone have a bread machine?

I've tried to make bread numerous times by hand and it's always been a miserable failure. So, just last week I bought a cheap bread machine at a thrift store (great place to find one, BTW. They always have a bunch of them and they look like they've never been used!)

So far I'm amazed at how well things have been turning out- I've been a bread baking fool! Here's what I'm wondering though: if you have a bread machine, do you actually use it often? Does anyone actually uses it on a regular basis once the newness/novelty wears off? Judging by the number of bread machines that all thrift stores seem to have, I would guess that there's a good chance mine will end up in the basement after a while...

  • I got one at my wedding shower and never used it so I donated it lol

  • My step mother gave me hers a long time ago. She used it quite a bit (but then again she's one of those people that lives and breathes cooking and baking). She wanted a bigger one so she gave me her old one. I used it a lot, for a while, and then I was over it. When we moved a few years ago, I gave it away. It's so big and took up too much space.
  • When I lived with my aunt for the summer she used hers a lot. But i'm not sure if it was new at the time or if she still uses it as much as she did.  The bread was sure yummy though.

  • I love mine! I used it a couple of times a month on average until I somehow lost the little mixing part that goes in the bottom. I really enjoyed just dumping ingredients in it and having fresh bread a few hours later! I need to get a replacement part so that I can get back to making bread again.

  • Mine goes in an out of favor as my life goes up and down.  I'll make it every week or more often for a while and then not again for months.  Speaking of which, it's about time I pulled it out again.  As a little side hint my friend told me, if you save the bags your bread came in (the loaf of bread you bought at the grocery store) and use that to store the bread you make in the bread maker, it lasts much longer without getting soggy or stale.
  • I used it alot at first but then it got old. I've pulled it out and been on a bread making kick a few times since. In fact, I should make some. It's always really yummy!

    I LOVE cinnamon apple bread!

  • I use mine a lot. Like you, bought it for $6 at Goodwill, and there were numerous ones on the shelf. I have the counter space so it stays out all the time, which probably helps w/ the amount I use it.

  • I use ours.  Probably about two times a month.  Ours is a cheap one that DH got before we got married.  It works fine, thought the bread comes out a bit of a funky shape.  I like that I can control what goes in it.  How much wheat, sugar, ect.  It taste better too.
  • I just wanted to say thanks for the heads up about getting one at a thrift store!  I never thought about that.  Can't wait to go shopping tomorrow :-)
  • I use to use mine a lot, then it's touch and go if it actually works or not. But I loved using it. We always made our pizza crust dough in it.
  • YES!!! ?I love mine!!! ?MIL gave me hers about 9 months ago or so and I still use it almost weekly! ?I barely ever buy bread at the store anymore! ?If I have soup in the crockpot or something then I throw a loaf of bread in the breadmachine to go with it instead of running to the store to get Italian bread or something. ?I also use it to make homemade pizza dough! ?So yummy! ?I really love that thing and am so glad to finally have one!!

  • I use it about once a month, but especially around the holidays.  I made some awesome pizza dough, but the dinner rolls I made were as hard as a rock, not sure what I did wrong.  It definately helps break down the work & time though!
