Is Ashley Furniture expensive?

We are starting to shop around for "big girl" bedroom furniture for DD. We don't want to spend a fortune on her first bedroom set. We just want a bed, dresser and night stand or small book shelf. I was looking at Ashley online and there are some adorable beds... I'm assuming they are expensive. The nearest one is about an hour drive away. Anyway, anyone know how their prices are?

Re: Is Ashley Furniture expensive?

  • From what I saw the last time I browsed an Ashley store, most of it was relatively inexpensive with fairly cheap materials/construction. For a little girl's bedroom, it's probably fine.

  • DH sells Ashley and you can get furniture for the kids that's not too pricy. They have solid wood and not solid wood so you can look around and see what you like. We actually got adult furniture for the kids in white so it looks like kid furniture but will grow with them.

yep. I would not expect it to last a lifetime, but for a kids room it is good. It is kind of what I consider starter furniture.

    This.

Ditto. I wasn't impressed at all.

  • Actually, I think its pretty affordable.  We got a couch and loveseat for our basement that is Ashley, it cost $850 total for both.

  • I agree, Ashley is reasonable but not great quality.

Just curious, why buy with the intention of swapping it out? This isn't a flame at all, I just don't understand it. We bought furniture for our kids' rooms before they were even born with the understanding that it would last them until they went to college. Obviously we spent a bit more, but I think it will cost less in the long run than constantly replacing it.

The furniture she has is nice but freaking HUGE. Her room is very small. We don't need the armoire, she has a closet that DH has gutted and made into a California closet of sorts. We don't need the changing table with hutch. We just need a bed, dresser and most likely a small bookcase. We went back and forth about converting the crib and just getting rid of the armoire and getting a bookshelf vs replacing the entire thing. We just need to make the most of what little space she has and we think the best way to do that is to get pieces she'll actually use and make sure its less bulky.

  • Not at all. If you want it to last, I wouldn't get it from Ashleys.
  • I'd say they are average price wise. The only thing I ever purchased from them was a couch.  It was nice quality and I think I paid about $400-$500 for it.

  •  I consider Ashley kind of medium low quality. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as you know what you're getting. There are times when heirloom quality is overkill, for example, certain pieces from Ashley might be fine for a basement media room, a sun porch, or any kind of secondary space. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if I was furnishing an apartment and in that phase of life when I was still moving around a lot and don't really know what you're going to really need or want when you settle down.It is expensive for sure for some furnitures according to me.
