I have an appointment next sat. to get my hair cut by a friend/owner of the salon. She charges $60 for a hair cut. I was always under the impression that you did not tip the owner, yet..I have never had the owner of a salon cut my hair. Does anyone know the proper way to handle this?

I see the owner, too, and I tip 20%. It's worth it to me...she is always booked solid but since I'm a good client she works me in if something comes up (like if I need my highlights redone before pictures or an event) and she regularly throws in a free deep conditioning treatment and product samples.
The tip-owner thing is weird because many stylists rent the chair space so they get more profit (theoretically) than a stylist who doesn't rent the chair and works directly for the salon itself instead.
I go to a salon where they don't take tips. Makes it much easier.
Of course, they just bake it in to the price of the haircut.
