Bio oil vs cocoa butter?

Are there any second time moms out there that could recommend which product is better to prevent stretch marks? I was told to start now with a daily routine to avoid them! Thanks :

Re: Bio oil vs cocoa butter?

  • The secret to avoiding stretch marks is good genes and minimal weight gain.

Beyond that, use what you like the feel and smell of. It's just moisturizer.

  • Yup, if you're going to get them, you're going to get them. Oils or creams can help with the itching, but there's no way to prevent them. It's all in the genes.

This. It's all genetics. The oils are a scam.
  • Unfortunately stretch marks are mostly due to genetics and weight gain. However, cocoa butter really helps with the dry skin you get on your belly as it stretches.

I will be using coconut oil because I use that as a moisturizer anyway. It has some amazing benefits.

  • I used all of this for each pg and it got worst with each one.  I didn't have a lot of weight gain, but I did have big babies.  Dd was born at 38 weeks and she was 8 pounds 3 ounces and DS was born at 39 weeks.  He was 9 pounds 7 ounces.  I'm only 5 foot two.

Yup. I never used anything and didn't get any stretch marks. My friend used every lotion/oil under the sun and got them BAD.

  • Stretch marks are in my genes but Clarins Tonic is amazing, I swear by it. I had 2 pregnancies in 2 years and I only had a couple faint stretch marks that have now faded :)

  • My aunt had triplets and used Emu oil and doesn't have a single stretch mark! I used Mustella and it helped with moisturizing and the itching towards the end, but I got marks anyway.  I asked my ma about it and she says that it is genetic, but that it also means that your skin isn't super stretchy, thus less wrinkles when you are old! I used to be really embarrassed about my marks after I had my son but in the grand scheme of things... who really cares? Your husband won't care, get a cute tankini, and the best part is that you get a baby... not a bad deal!

  • Sadly, you will get them or you won't. I used it all through 1 and made it to 39 weeks and then BAM...stretch marks everywhere. Some people swear by stuff, but a lot of it is just how big your baby gets and genetics. Good luck!
