Nasty Cough... XP: May board

DS has a really bad wet cough.  The poor little guy.  It is the worst when he is sleeping. He wakes up coughing and doesn't stop for a few minutes.  Other then the humidifier and some ibuprofen for any painsore throat, what can I do for him?  Suggestions please! This isn't how I wanted him to spend his first Christmas!  He also has a low fever, but it acting pretty normal aside from runny nose and having a hard time sleeping.

Re: Nasty Cough... XP: May board

  • Saline nasal drops to thin the mucus as it runs down his throat.  Run a hot shower and stand in the bathroom with him for a bit (more concentrated than the humidifier).

  • Try some Baby Vicks. May open him up a bit and calm him so he can sleep.
  • Our daughter has the same. We put a pillow under the head end of her crib....it has helped a ton. She doesn't wake up in the middle of the night coughing/choking any more.
  • We have a Vicks plug in going right now. She's got a bad cough. I took her to the doc yesterday because she's had bronchiolitis twice already. So far just a cold/virus. Hope LO feels better soon!  I know L's coughs are usually bad for two days then she starts coughing less.

  • Everything these ladies said. My LO has this and is just getting over it. I called the nurse on Saturday morning and she said to do the steamy shower thing before bed and to try to not give her formula before bed if I can help it as it apparently binds to the phlem. I don't know how much truth is in that, but even if you do give them formula, try to give them a little water afterward, too. Hope everyone gets better!
