so frustrated with our living situation

DH and I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment. When DD is sleeping in her crib in her room, we can NOT make any noise at all bc the apartment is so small that it wakes her up. so when she naps or goes to bed for the night, I cant get anything done!!! no dishes, no laundry, no cleaning bathrooms, etc...during the day when she is awake I am able to get a few chores done but LO will get impatient with me if I spend most of my day doing chores. i dont even remember the last time i cleaned our bathroom. gross. and our upstairs neighbor stomps around at all hours of the day and night and wakes LO up ALL THE TIME! i have gone up there a few times to ask her to keep it down because it literally sounds like she is dropping bowling balls. at 4:00am this morning i kept hearing "BAM BAM BAM!" woke all of us up. the other day LO was really fighting a nap and I finally got her to go to sleep and 5 minutes later some idiot drove through the parking lot with his speakers blaring and set off a bunch of car alarms. and woke LO up. AHHHH!!! I wanted to chase him down the street. anybody else dealing with apartment living?? we are buying a house this summer and it cant get here fast enough.

Re: so frustrated with our living situation

  • I feel your pain!! We live in a small 2 bed apartment also.  Luckily cleaning and doing chores doesn't usually wake DD during naps or bedtime.  However last night I was awoken my our neighbors partying and the upstairs neighbors stomping around at 2 am.  It was terrible.  DH has went upstairs in the middle of the night before to ask them WTF they are doing but they never answer the door.

Lucky you guys are getting a house soon! We are not so fortunate.

  • Sounds like it's time to play music, all the time.. Not only will it help drown out the other noises, but it will help your lo sleep through unexpected noises.

  • I hear you! We have a house, but it doesn't stop neighbors mowing the lawn, blowing snow eight at nap time... or delivery men ringing the door bell ... which then sets off the dogs..and there's hunters down at the river shooting birds at the crack of dawn which is also loud enough to wake LO... music works though. It really does.

  • yea we have been using music and white noise, it helps some but her cd player broke last week!
  • We have the same issue, so I can sympathize. Our house is mega tiny and we have to be super quiet not to wake her up. White noise definitely helps, but it doesn't solve everything.

  • Get a white noise machine and run it al the highest volume. DD3 can sleep through my two girls screaming outside her door with it on! Best thing ever!
