Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Going to bed too early!

Ugh, DD doesn't sleep very well at daycare.  She usually takes 2 about 45 minute naps with 2.5 hr awake time in between.  By the time we get home about 5pm she is very tired and falls asleep for the night! I've tried waking her at about 6 and she is a tired mess and very cranky! Should I just let this go until she can stay awake longer?

Re: Going to bed too early!

  • Why do you want to wake her up? I would let her sleep.

  • I would just like more time together in the evenings when I get home from work. I'd like another feeding in evening instead of the middle of the night.  Also, maybe we could sleep in a little in the mornings if bedtime wasn't so early?

I see... Since she seems tired, I would let her rest.

My kid has always gone to bed early.  At your LO's age, it was probably 5:30 ish. He's 16 months now and still only makes it to 6:30 most nights.  When we tried pushing bedtime back, he just got cranky and overtired and it took him longer to get to sleep and he'd still get up at the same time, if not earlier.  I'd just let LO sleep when LO wants to sleep.

This. Ds goes to bed no later than 6 every night. Some babies just go to sleep earlier. I barely see Ds on work nights, but we make up for it on the weekends.

  • I have no idea if this is a good idea or not, but have you ever tried waking her around 6:00 or 7:00 to see if you can turn the first bit of evening sleep into a nap? Then she could have a bedtime around 8:00 and hopefully sleep a little bit later in the morning? Just a thought...
