Tredyffrin School District Parents

We are looking to move to the area and saw that they start middle school in 5th grade!  It seems very young to start and now am rethinking moving there.  Do any of you have kids in middle school or have friends that do?  What are your thoughts about this?  Thanks!

Re: Tredyffrin School District Parents

  • I'm not in the area, but how is the division done?  It might not be as bad as you fear.  Some districts have a middle school of 5/6 or 5 - 7 and then a junior high school, usually up to tenth grade at most, then high school.  Also look into if the students are clearly separated.  I remember being in middle school in 6th grade, but never interacting with 7th and 8th graders because all of our classes were held in one section of the building and 7th and 8th in another.

  • I am in a different district in PA and they start middle school in grade 5.  It's becoming more common.  It's 5-8th grade but the 5th graders are kept in another wing away from the rest of the school their entire year.  They are bussed together, though.  We are walkers, so this is not an issue for us.

  • It seems odd to me too, but I believe that is an excellent school district so maybe they are on to something?

  • I went to school in the TE school district. You cannot get a better public school system. Don't think twice about it, it's the best public schools in the area! I may be a little biased but I had a great experience and it made college a breeze! I was the last of the 5th grade elementary classes but 5th grade moving to the middle school didn't make a huge difference I don't think.
