Because DS takes awful naps typically 30 minutes he is so so so overtired by late afternoon/evening. DH and I are trying to find a way to help him nap better but aren't having much luck. Happy Baby recommends an early bedtime for a few nights like 5:30/6:30 and a set awake time. We are nervous to try this for fear of him bring up for the day at like 4am and us running into the same issues, just earlier. Plus from my earlier post it would seem many of you don't have a set wake time.
I'm curious then what our other options are. I don't know much about sleep training but always assumed they mere methods to help get better night time sleep...do they help with naps too?
Any recommendations?

Re: Overtired late in day
It seems like if we don't get L down right away when she's tired, she'll take a short nap. BUT- she used to not want to go down for a nap unless she was really tired- so we were in a nap HELL... Once we got her in the habit of going to sleep on her own relatively easily, she seemed to be able to nap better. She still doesn't sleep more than an hour or two- but that's enough for her to not be a terror the whole evening. Perhaps try to put LO down earlier for naps, before he's over tired?
Also- I have a friend who's LO goes to bed at 6pm, maybe yours needs an earlier bedtime? I know if L is really fussy in the evening before bed, it means she wants to go to bed early that night.
