I'm going to be TTC #2 in a couple of months and I'm currently in love with the name Ruby. WDYT of Ruby with my DD Violet Emmeline? I know they are both color names but I am hoping that it's passable.
Both pretty names, but way too much together. My cousin's DDs are named Lily and Dahlia, which has become a family joke. Don't do it. If you love Ruby so much, there's always the middle name spot.

It's a very colorful sibset. It is a little cheesy, but I don't think it is awful.
I would strongly consider whether you intend to have more children or not and if there are color names you would want to use to continue this theme once you start it with #2. Who would your son be? Jasper? Cole? Flint? Forrest? Kelly?
Eh, I don't think it's terrible, but that may be because I like both names a lot. I'd probably make Ruby be the very last choice and see if you could come up with any other option first.
I would have never thought colors. I have a friend who has a Violet and a Ruby (and a Henry) and I love their names.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind."
- Kurt Vonnegut
My daughter is Violet and if this baby is a girl Ruby was a consideration. We have decided to go with Ivy though, which is still plants & colours but I don't really mind.
I also know a Violet & Hazel sibset which is pretty and in the colour and plant theme lol
I sounds better said "Ruby and Violet".... better than "Violet and Ruby"
Ruby is more traditionally viewed as a name where Violet is more commonly used in daily vernacular as a color. If you lead with that, then yes people will mentally catagorize it to the default of "these are colors"
So they're cute names, not bad together, but if you could get a mulligan I would have named the eldest Ruby.
Also: QUESTION for anyone: I'm looking for my old post history, havent logged on in a year plus but I wanted to find an old thread I'd commented on. How do I find my comment history? Thanks in advance.
I think it's cute, I am a fan of matchy/themed names. My friend has 2 daughters, named Azalea, and Liliana. When she told me that #2 was a girl, the first name that popped in my head was "Lily"
Also, all 3 of them share "Rose" as a MN.

I have a Ruby and Violet was my number one girl choice for #2 (we had 2 boys though). It's a little matchy, but not too bad. We get so many compliments on the name Ruby.
Other names I considered for #2 were: Daisy, Opal, Olive and Dahlia. ETA: Love the Hazel suggestion, but that's another color name too.

LOVE Violet! It is one of our top 2 if we have another girl (DD is Fiona, Top 2: Bridget and Violet).
In a non-creepy non-stalker way I have always admired your taste in names so your seal of approval means a lot to me! Are you guys planning on a 4th baby? That's exciting!
I think that if you want to name your girls Violet and Ruby, do it! The way I see it, and actually what I told a family member once when she said she wasn't fond of a name that I was considering for my first child was (mind you, I hadn't asked what she thought of the name because, quite frankly, I didn't care if she liked it or not), "You had 3 children. You chose to name them ___, ___, and ___." You and your SO will be doing all the hard work creating the baby, you'll be doing all the hard work growing the baby, you get to name the baby I say bring on the ruby...just know that you're setting yourself and her future boyfriends up for a lifetime of having to buy beautiful red gemstones for her

~DS Born! 2009~
~DD Born! 2013~
But they are both considered colors as well.
I am torn. I don't think it's awful, but I'm not sure I'd do it myself. I really like both names.
I knew a sibset (older ladies when I knew them) named Ruby, Pearl, and Opal.
Yeah, this unfortunately.
This makes me very happy because Henry is our #1 boy name! So atleast I'm not the only one who is pairing these names together.
My daughter is Violet and if this baby is a girl Ruby was a consideration.
