WCM/Formula/Breastmilk Question

Hi all,
So I have a problem. So far, I have had enough milk for both boys. The last two days I have been coming up with less milk though. I am pumping about 4oz less than before. Still pumping a Hugh amount but it scared me. So I figured I could give Alastair one bottle if formula or wcm a day and the rest bm. Well. He refused both. Like throwing a fit of rage refusing. So far so good. I can always make him drink water or whatnot, but he used to drink both just fine before he got breastmilk.
What do I do now? Do I start mixing? Do I ride it out hoping my supply is going back up? Wwyd?

Also, any suggestions on maybe increasing supply again? I do eat oatmeal, drink huge amounts of water, I made lactation cookies, have not changed anything pumping wise. I mean there is no real issue yet, but I would love to be able to give both boys breastmilk over the winter.

Sorry for the novel!

  • At his age, I'd skip formula entirely. Are you trying to give him wcm in a sippy or bottle? A sippy may separate it into a new category better. You could also try almond/coconut/soy milk instead of wcm and see if that goes over better.

I cannot do any nuts because I am allergic - he spills it, I am toast. Soy I may try.

I still have formula left from before Aidan's birth though - I mean Alastair was ff'ed until his brother was born. I figured since he was ok with it before and pitched a fit at WCM, I'd give it a shot - he wants boob juice though.

I have tried both, sippy and bottle and he is just not down.

  • If weight isn't an issue try 2 percent or 1.

  • Hi! Not a regular poster here...but I have friends that have to put chocolate syrup (sugar free) to get their LO's to drink WCM.

For me personally, I would just continue to try different sippy cups. My pedi told me when weaning DS1 that if I put it in the bottle and try to wean the bottle than that could also lead to having LO not drink milk (cause they only want it in the bottle). My DS1 takes his WCM in a sippy with a soft top, but maybe a hard top could separate it for him?

    Just an idea ;)

  • I'd mix it to wean Alistair off the BM slowly if you need to. I have a couple of days here and there where my supply dips. It has come back up so far. GL.

  • I'm on mobile so can't see how old he is. But kids actually don't need WCM at all. Once they are past 2 milk is not a biological requirement assuming he eats a healthy balanced diet. That's the whole theory behind human milk for human babies really. You can get fat from a ton of other foods and calcium from leafy greens. So basically I wouldn't worry much about it. My dd primarily drinks vanilla soy bc DS is MPI so I drink soy milk mostly. She will be 4 in 3 weeks.
