Success after IF

Probably a stupid question but I want to know...

Baby M is 6wks and we've been going out several times a week for walks and to the grocery store.  All these trips are usually no longer than 1 hour; the only other outing we do is a BF support group which takes about 2hrs including the drive.

Now that I'm a bit more confident as a mom, at some point I would like to venture out for longer periods with M.  What I have been wondering is, if you're out w/LO, what do you do if you need to use the bathroom???  I can't seem to figure out how moms do it.  You can't take the stroller w/you into the stall cuz there's not enough room, but I don't see how I can carry M in my arms into the stall and pee - don't I need 3 arms to do that?  Yet leaving M alone in the stroller outside the bathroom stall doesn't seem safe.  Can someone enlighten me?  Or do I just hold it in until I get home?!  Sorry if this is a dumb question... I bet there is an easy answer to this!

Re: Probably a stupid question but I want to know...

  • Use the handicap stall which will give you far more room for a stroller.  Or, if you're lucky, where you go will have a family bathroom.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I have had the same question! I usually wear E in the moby, but the idea of wearing her on the toilet seems gross and wrong. I have just been holding it so far. If I'm gone really long, I usually have MH or a friend with me.

  • Take the stroller in the handicap stall or carry the baby in a moby or bjorn and hold her while peeing.

  • It depends upon the bathroom. If there is an accessible stall, I bring the stroller in with me. If not I just park the stroller in front of the stall and pee with the door open. I use the furthest stall for this to avoid people needing to walk around the stroller and or get a view of me.

If wearing him in a bjorn I could pee as usual.

At home if I was nursing and had to pee I could manage to keep the boy on me if I was wearing the my breast friend, I could still manage to pee and wipe with one hand and wash my hand, while holding him on it with the other hand.

Necessity really is the mother of invention. :)

  • I've taken the stroller into the bathroom or peed while wearing him w/ my beco.  I've even held him and peed with one hand at home.

  • I agree, family bathrooms or handicap stalls are the best! Also, after a little practice I got pretty good at holding Chloe and peeing at the same time lol!
