Weird pregnancy side effect

So we've all read and prepared ourselves for the sickness, heartburn, constipation, aches, pains, etc etc...but does anyone have an unusual or weird side effect?

Mine started about week 12....my right eye waters ALL DAY LONG!!! Seriously, my students have asked more than once if I was crying, and my makeup is ruined before lunch. No infection in my eye, no discharge or pain, just constant watering! Annoying!

  • I find that my eyes sometimes sting when I close them.  This is new for me.

  • Before I found out I was pregnant I found a huge (like 2"x2") bald spot on the top of my head.  I completely freaked out, as most people would, because I had no idea what had caused it.

I went to the doctor who told me it was probably a hormone imbalance from the change in my thyroid meds.  A month later I found out I was pregnant...explanation for the hormone imbalance.

But now, that is the only spot on my head that the hair actually grows.  The rest of my hair hasn't grown in about 2 years.  Totally sucks cause I hate my hair right now and the only solution is to chop it off, which I really don't want to do knowing that it may not grow back.

Luckily, this is really my only complain of pregnancy.  I love being pregnant, even if it means being uncomfortable sometimes.

  • I got hernias.  Awesome.  Apparently I probably have always (born with) microscopic tears in some tissue lining in my low belly/groin area that I never knew even existed, but being pregnant causes that lining to stretch into large enough holes that your intestines actually slip through a little bit.  Lovely, huh?  When I lay down they go away and have no pressure, but standing, sitting, walking, exercising...pretty much anything else causes them to pop out and throb/burn.  Because it took awhile for my belly to pop last time, I didn't get them until like month 6 or 7.  But second time around your belly pops so much sooner and I currently one about the size of a golf ball.  I suspect it will get as large as last time to a near baseball size by the end.  Since they go away when I'm not pg, I probably will not worry about them again.  But for now, they SUCK!

I had an ocular migraine yesterday.  I got this weird crescent shaped kaleidoscope vision in my right eye that last about 20 minutes and then just disappeared.  I thought my retina was detaching or something!!

Dr. said it was most likely an ocular migraine but is sending me to an eye doctor for a check up to be on the safe side.

I have suffered from these since childhood and I am SO SORRY because they are TERRIFYING if you don't know what is happening...

  • I get strange hiccups when I'm pregnant. As soon as i give birth, the hiccups are gone.
  • A couple weeks ago I started getting this weird numb spot on my belly right below my left breast.  It comes and goes and is really annoying.  Sometimes it even kind of stings.  I figure it's just a pinched nerve or something :/

Ah yes the kaleidoscope! I've been having ocular migraines since the age of 12 and the change in vision is definitely weird....and scary if you don't know what it is.  Did you get a headache afterwards? Mine last anywhere from 2-48 hours! I feel your pain...literally. The worst part is not being about to take my Rx and getting one about every 2 weeks!!
