How the heck do you limit the toys LO gets for Christmas? After our first get together last night Lj has a battery powered motorcycle, a baby doll with tons of accessories, a Baby Alive, a talking princess dollhouse with Little People princesses, a Text&Go toy and Letter Factory Toy with all 26 letters of the alphabet. I don't even think Santa should stop here. We put back her baby doll with all it's accessories and the princess house and will bring it out when we rid some of these other toys. The only positive to this is she is so distracted that she hasn't asked for her paci. Day 1 of the paci wean!

Re: Toys Toys Toys
Did you see my FFFC? It wasn't meant as a diss on Duff. It's a comment on the fact that the only means of controlling how many toys they get is by limiting what WE give them.
I'm not stopping my parents or the IL's. It's their money. If they ask, I give suggestions, but that's where it ends. I cannot and will not tell them to stop. I have casually mentioned how many toys they have, but only a few times.
If it gets to be too much, take back some of the stuff you got her or donate it. Put the cash you get from returning gifts into a savings account for her.
For DD's birthday, we did a combination of what J&K and shanado mentioned, and it worked out great. DH and I bought her one big gift from us, and that was it. Then after she got her birthday haul, we went through the mountain of toys. If there were toys - or clothes - that were really similar, I returned the duplicates for store credit. This was great because I used a lot of the store credit to buy her clothes that she actually needed for the fall and winter season.
We put away some of the toys in her closet, unopened, and I saved them to pull out on rainy days between her birthday and Christmas. This was a lifesaver since there were so many rainy days this fall!

I'm sick of all of the toys. And, this sounds insane, but I'm tired of the toys not matching. If they have little People don't buy them Play Mobile. It's just annoying to have 500 pieces of different toys.
Glad there was a positive outcome (no paci)!
We're not doing too badly with toys yet, thanks to having to limit number/size of gifts because of moving/travel. (That's the good part about living in Hawaii - it was too expensive for the grandparents to go overboard.) This year I've asked them to hold back because we don't have a new house yet, and because everything has to fit in my car when I drive out to our next duty station.
We plan to put away alot of the baby baby toys before Christmas and then he will have all his new toys :-) alot of the presents under the tree are for friends/family. I don't think you can ever really limit what you buy for your LO's. One gift is great and 50 is great too ;-) the quantity does not matter IMO.
