I posted a few months ago on the 3-6 board because I was really having trouble keeping the dang thing on her diaper, and it was coming loose and therefor setting off the alarm several nights per week. I feel like that has gotten much better and we only have a 'false alarm' once every two weeks or so now.
But last night it went off twice and both times it was securely affixed to her diaper. I believe she had actually probably stopped breathing, if even briefly. She roused easily and went back to sleep, but obviously I was/am still worried. My husband insists that it was just 'the damn thing malfunctioning again' but I don't think so.
My question is this: if you use the snouza, have you found that it 'malfunctions', outside of user error? And what do you know about babies periodically stopping breathing in their sleep? I've read some that it can be common in younger or premature babies, but my girl was 2 weeks late and is now 6 months old.
TIA for your opinion/experience/thoughts.
Re: If you use a Snouza Monitor
I have used the Snuza religiously since DS stopped breathing twice, the last time he was 2months old. I will continue to use it as long as I can because its such a great piece of mind for me. I do not believe mine has malfunctioned outside of human error BUT I have heard of this happening. Apparently if you call the company, they will send you a new one if you return the malfunctioning one. (This is just something I have heard.)
In any case, if you are having any doubts about your LO's breathing, I would absolutely contact your pedi and talk to them. After the second time it happened with DS, mine suggested a sleep study in the hospital which we did. Nothing was found (thank God) but I really appreciated the proactive approach they had.

Sorry, didn't read this question before. I know that baby apnea is different from adult apnea. One of the ways they are different is that the fully developed adult brain can register that it needs oxygen and signal breathing while the developing baby brain may not have this function fully developed yet.

I use the Snuza and have from day 1. Have you ever seen the light blink red? The light will blink green every time it registers a breath. If it blinks red it's not registering the breath that the baby is taking. When baby is awake put the alarm on like normal and watch the light. You may have to adjust it to get it to rest on Lo's tummy in the right position.
A friend of mine has also used the Snuza since day 1 and her daughter has had bouts where she does stop breathing. They have gone from dr to dr and were told numerous things. They were told severe reflux, seizures, neurological issues, congestion, sleep apnea and many other things could be causing her to sold her breath or stop breathing. Remember, the Snuza doesn't alarm until after 15+ seconds of no breathing.
You can ask your doctor but keep in mind that most of them have no idea what the Snuza is and will doubt you unless you show them. My friend's doctors (even the specialists) made her bring in her alarm and show them how it worked before they would even run further tests.
Good luck!
