This is probably old news, but has anyone tried coconut milk with their LO? Did they like it? I bought two cartons of the unsweetened stuff at TJ's today, so I'm going to try it tonight. I just thought it might be a good alternative to her regular WCM sometimes. I guess if she hates it, I'll try using it in my coffee!
Also, eating in the car: Does anyone let their LO do this yet? We're going to be on the road a lot this weekend (12 hours between Friday-Sunday ... one 4 hour trip Friday and two 4 hour trips Sunday), and I know DD will want snacks. We give her fruit pouches in the car sometimes, but I haven't tried any other snacks because I'm so worried about choking. BUT, goldfish crackers have the undeniable ability to stop any and all crankiness. She's usually a very happy baby, but she's battling an ear infection now and the crankiness comes and goes unexpectedly. But when it comes ... WATCH OUT. So this is when I ask what are very likely stupid questions
TIA!
Re: Two Questions: Coconut milk & Eating in the car
I have no idea about coconut milk. Sorry!
But I do let my kids eat in the car. I do cheese sticks, or animal crackers or Cheerios. I eat in the car, I think it's mean not to let them. They also get their milk in the car.
I haven't tried coconut milk, but I don't see any reason why not.
Eating in the car is something I don't plan on doing like, ever. Key word plan.
Right now though, I'd be too worried about choking. I would wait until she's forward facing and not reclined.
ETA: She usually has a sippy of water in the car.
Never tried coconut milk, but apparently it is a natural laxative, so be careful!!! Especially if you use it in your coffee!
She is only allowed to have water in the car. I don't want to deal with a missing milk filled sippy. The only time we let her eat in the car was on our 3,000 mile road trip last month, but she was also forward facing and we could see if she was choking. She is back to rear facing and I cannot see her....so she cannot have food.
No help on the coconut milk. I have heard it's good in coffee though.
As far as eating in the car we typically don't. I have given her small things pop snax for instance a few times. We were only a few minutes from home and she got one at a time. I wouldn't have even bothered except those times I knew she was hungry. I think if you or your H can be in the back seat with her to supervise it's okay otherwise I wouldn't do it.
We haven't done coconut milk, but LBB loves coconut milk yogurt - but that's also flavored (vanilla, blueberry) so I don't know if that makes a difference.
As for eating in the car - I'm not a fan. He can have water in the car, but I don't like him eating in the car.
We have a 7 hour car drive on Saturday, which will probably end up taking 14 hours. We're planning on stopping every time he wants snacks for a little out-of-car walking break. We'll have the dog too, so leg stretches don't seem like a horrible idea.
I'm also not a fan of eating in the car, the kids only get to do it on a long trip. Violet only gets something if someone is back there with her.
kids+food= nasty car.
I have not tried coconut milk for Violet but I like to pour some in my jasmine rice right when it is finished cooking in the rice cooker, so good!
I do too. I only give her things that are dissolvable. I don't know what I would do without having some snacks, because Nora has been such a big eater this whole time (except when teething).
My LO is MSPI and coconut milk is by far his favorite milk alternative. I get the calcium fortified, unsweetened kind.
We don't do food in the car, mainly because of choking fears, but also because he's a messy eater. If we were doing a long road trip, I might change my mind if one of us were in the backseat with him.
Thanks, Mack! I actually didn't know that. Thanks for educatin' me! I might try it for me then, too, because I need all the extra calcium I can get.
DH loves coconut milk, but I don't think we've ever given any to DD.
As for eating in the car, we try really hard not to unless she is just unbearable. She has a tendency to shovel food in her mouth until she gags, so it's just not something we're super comfortable with.
If she's starving, I'll usually climb in the backseat with her, provided DH is with us.
Spinach is a great source of calcium too.
