re: pics after birth

Just a word of advice from a STM: you can capture some really great moments right after the baby is born.

And photos can always be cropped.

With DS our doula took a lot of photos - we were too out of it to even think to ask but she just snapped away. I am so glad.

So yes, I saw a photo of 'downstairs' post birth but the upstairs part was a beautiful photo of DH and I looking down at DS. He was just minutes old and our excitement was so candid and real. Few seconds in iPhoto and it was one of my most treasured pics.

Personally, I am not into nor would I want crowing shots but those seconds old baby shots can be really beautiful.

Re: re: pics after birth

  • Exactly. There is no harm in just snapping shots throughout the birth. No one is saying to display them on a wall or post them on Facebook. But these are the REAL moments and raw emotions that will be captured, not some sanitized, pretty version created just for the cameras after the fact.

  • If I was having a natural birth it might be different but I am not sure how many candid moments you can get when all you can see is a green drape until they pop the baby over for a split second.

You never know... I've seen some beautiful c-section photos. One of my friend's made me tear up, fresh baby right next to her and her husband had this crazy smile.

I understand what you're saying but I disagree that there are no great moments to capture just because it's a c section. You could get shots of your partner holding your hand and kissing your forehead, the excitement and anticipation in your eyes, etc.

  • Aww. Very true, I need to have my mom snapping pics, thank you. Post up that picture if you would be comfortable! It sounds beautiful.

  • some of my favorite pictures are the ones of me holding DD right after I had her. The look on my face was pure joy and I don't think it could have been captured besides in that moment :)

  • I'm a fan of pics of the baby and the warmer bed with the weight on it and all that. But hell no I don't want a picture of myself after I give birth. Lets face it I'm not photogenic when I have spent time and effort on myself. But I'll just give DH the camera and let him loose. Maybe you girls are right and a good one will sneak in haha.
  •  Amen!  You will never get those moments back and will be so glad they are documented.  Any graphic photos can be edited or kept private.  My doula took photos during the birth of DS and we have a photographer again this time around (in addition to our doula).

  • my birth photos are 100% my most cherished images, so much more important than our wedding pics. I love them and am glad we are doing them again!

  • They are precious, but just be careful when uploading!  A friend of mine accidentally loaded ALL of an album to facebook instead of just the pics she wanted to share.  oops!

DH and I, alongside about 200 other people, got an email from a friend of ours - and excited first time dad - with photos of his new baby.  However, he accidentally included a photo of his beautiful new family together right after birth with his wife spread eagle showing all her glory.  The glory was the largest part of the photo, so it was not easily missed.  We were SHOCKED!!!

This X 100000! When I look at DD's birth photos, I don't think about my hair or face or whatever...I'm back in those moments of bringing our new baby into the world, her cry, her sweet face, etc.

  • LOL luckily our photog doesn't take any 'money shots' haha
