Babies: 6 - 9 Months

I never thought' I'd ask a sleep question

I never thought' I'd ask a sleep question, because I think this is a scary crazy world and sleeping through the night is a big expectation. I hate sleep questions.

Well I was wrong. That being said, the last couple weeks DD has been waking with a very intense cry. Her back is rubbed or she is sometime picked up, rocked and put back to sleep very quickly.  She does this 1-5 times a night.  First I thought she was cold, so she changed her bedtime set up. It actually worked for a couple days but now shes back to waking.

What do you think? Nightmares in a 7.5 month old?

Re: I never thought' I'd ask a sleep question

  • DD has been doing this lately, at least once or twice most nights.  I started using a dim nightlight in her room, and she's doing better now.  I think as they become older and more aware, the dark can be scary and disorienting when they wake up.

It is also possible that your LO is having nightmares.  DD has them sometimes too, and has for months.  Most of the resources I read say that it's more common if baby is over-tired before going to bed.  Not sure if that's an issue or not.

  • My DD has been doing the same thing and I've been wondering if nightmares were possible. Sorry I don't have any advice, but at least you aren't alone.

  • Maybe night terrors? Try googling them to see if they fit the bill?

  • We have ben skipping her evening nap more because its such a fight. She actually sleeps worse when we skip it. interesting to here overtiredness causes nightmares.
