Charleston, Savannah, or Key West?

ETA: Mobile users: Charleston, Savannah, or Key West

Who has been to any of these? Where did you stay? What would you recommend or NOT recommend? Care to suggest some place similar for a long weekend in March?

Re: Charleston, Savannah, or Key West?

  • Is this for your big family vacation, or just a little escapade with Mr Tuna?

  • I found out that my nanny family is going to Chicago for the boys' spring break. I thought about surprising Mr. T with a weekend get-away.

Mrs. Skull, thanks! YGPM back. :)

  • Charleston; We stayed on Foley beach (hotel pp mentioned) and traveled to Charleston. I think I enjoyed the charm Charleston has.

Savannah; I like Savannah, I really do. But I wouldn't want to spend a weekend there. We go to Tybee Island and travel back in to Savannah for day trips. Tybee is 4 hours away from us, which isn't a bad ride for Lj. It is our new vaca spot. We loved the family feel, the quietness and enjoyed walking around the outer tip of the island. With sore feet, ofcourse.

Never been to Key West but have many friends who have.

  • I haven't been to Key West, but we did go to Savannah and Charleston on the same trip.  Savannah is more my speed.  They're really different cities, but similar.  Charleston is more modern feeling and there's more hustle and bustle there.  Savannah has more of a very old South feel.  Both have excellent restaurants and plenty to do.  I found Savannah to be more pleasant (and quiet) to walk around in, but there are also really nice places to walk in Charleston.  We rented houses in both.  You can also take great day trips from both.  However, if you do go to Savannah, you must go on a weekday and eat lunch at Mrs. Wilkes'.  I recommend wearing stretchy pants that day.  YWIA.

  • I've been to Key West a few times. It's beautiful, fun and easier to get to than the Caribbean.

I'll see if I can gather A link for the B and B place we stayed. It was pretty, nice and inexpensive.

  • I've been to Key West and I love it. It's a great place to go especially with no kids. My vote is Key West. Ooh, and you should rent a scooter!

  • Awesome!  I'm also a huge charleston fan.  If you want a cheap evening, the charleston water taxi has a "sunset cruise" where you can byob and ride around the harbor.  It's not fancy, but is fun.  Other suggestions - Husk for best meal of your life, Marion sq farmers market if you're there Saturday morning, Shem creek for seafood.  Have a great time!
