is this flame-worthy?

A friend somehow got on the topic of ww2/nazis/Hitler/, etc, and exclaimed "I know he was a monster, but you have to give it to Hitler for being a genius".

Should I have flamed her?

  • I think this is one of those things that people occasionally say without actually knowing much of anything about Hitler or WWII.  So, while I'm not offended by it, it falls into blowhard territory.

  • I think Hitler was very smart and he's been widely recognized as a brilliant public speaker.

That doesn't mean he is admirable. He was evil and what he did should be far more remembered than his ability to get others to follow him.

  • If being extraordinarily charismatic equals being a genius, then yes, he was a genius.

How? He was smart. And evil. What makes you think he wasn't smart?

  • Was he evil yes. Was he a genius yes. Dh was a History major in college did several reports on Hilter. He was in fact a brillant leader, but also evil and sick as he!l.

  • He was a genius. He even grew up in a normal family. He was also crazy. Literally crazy. Some think it's due to him having syphilis.

It's a fact that he was a genius. The way your friend came off is, "yes he was a monster, but hey, he was a genius". Not flameworthy, she just ignorant.

Why is it that Pillsbury cookies are never as good as the commercial makes them look?

Word on the street is you gotta use an ice cream scoop.

I epically failed at chocolate chip cookies last night.  I can't explain what the result was... a gooey pile of batter with chocolate chips in it... They still taste delicious but damn they are ugly.

Don't get me wrong.. Obviously I will still eat them.

This is when you say "F'uck it" and eat the cookie dough raw.

  • Hitler was a genius.  Evil genius.  Not flameworthy.  She didn't say he was her hero or anything .

Yesterday I made about 10 dozen cookies with my sister and mom.  Probably 8 dozen made it into the tupperware containers.

Has anyone heard that using an ice cream scoop is the superior way to disperse cookies on the sheet?

    Well it is.

    SHOTS!

I do this, except I use a melon baller. So they cookies are smaller and I then I can eat more of them.

How do you keep the dough from sticking to the scoop/baller?

It has one of those metal things that scoops it out.

A light coating of butter should do the trick.

Wait, am I going to be reported as inappropriate?

Maybe... but I'm still gonna try the ice cream scoop thing.

I'm not saying he wasn't.  It's just one of those things people repeat because it's common knowledge even when they know almost nothing about him.  If you ask most people who say that to give an example of what made him a genius, most would be hard-pressed.

Yeah I agree with you.  It's just sort of an incendiary statement but if you asked that person to back it up with a real discourse, many of the times that falls flat.  I agree with that part of the argument.

Oh, okay. That makes sense and I agree. I was thinking you meant "they'd never call him smart if they knew what he did".

I actually thought this exact same thing after I posted my original comment.

I retract calling him a genius.

He was never evaluated, as far as I know, so I'm not thinking we can just slap "genius" label on him. He undoubtedly was a good speaker, good at manipulating people, etc.  Sociopaths are usually(or always? I don't know)  pretty intelligent....

I read a bio or something written by his sister.  She talked a little about what he was like growing up, etc.   If I remember correctly, she said he did poorly in school but that he was extremely intelligent.

Regardless. He was evil.  That's all we really need to know.

  • He was a genius, but his actions weren't smart.
