I just read this article on CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2012/12/19/world/russia-adoption-u-s-ban/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
Is this new? I thought that after the deal was brokered on postplacement reporting, everything was going smoothly. Reading this article, it sounds like this is a quick move in response to and retaliation for whatever this Magnitsky Act is. Is that accurate, or is this a case of that just being the reason they are sighting for political reasons, when the real issue is that they have been having misgivings for a long time about sending their children to be adopted by American families?
It just seems to me that Russia knows it has too many children in need of families to follow through with an all-out American adoption ban....
Re: Russian Adoptions in Jeapordy Again?
I have an 8 year old son who was adopted at 28 months...typically too old to be 'wanted'. It makes me so sad to think of those like him in the orphanages because the Russians do not want to adopt. We have since had two bio sons, but we would love to go back to adopt again someday.
I can't imagine Russia would cut that out because everyone benefits...the kids, Russians, and the parents here adopting. I hope it doesn't pass.
I'm so glad we're home now. We know a few people waiting to go get their LO's and waiting for court. I can't imagine what they must be feeling right now.
Ugh it makes my stomach hurt to think of all the waiting families hearing this news. Praying the ban does not go through.
