First thoughts boy or girl?
To me Shane will always be a boy name... with that spelling I think somebody just threw in an unnecessary y
.
(...edited for serious grammatical errors lol...)
fitzpemberley:A boy's name spelled weirdly.
handsonthewheel:Boy, but the y spelling is horrible. I would go with Shane.

I like the name Shane, but Shayne is awful! It doesn't suit a boy or girl...

Lue94:Boy name and I don't mind the "Y", maybe because I have seen it spelled like this.
Boy, spelled incorrectly.
Idani:MelRC117:kxp004:To me Shane will always be a boy name... with that spelling I just think somebody just through in an unnecessary yThis. The Y wouldn't make it a girl name like some people seem to believe. Exactly, changing spelling doesn't stop it from being a male name.

Boy.
Although I did know a Shane that was a girl, then again I also knew a girl named Michael and another girl named Ryan, so maybe I just had friends with strange parents.
