I organized a food drive at my job and i just recieved the donation box from one of our buildings. It was 1/4 full and the food that was in there was expired!!! I threw it away! A majority of the people I work with make in excess of 100k a year not me, unfortunately and they can't spend 5 on a few cans of tuna??? Grr!
Re: People Suck!
Company pays 30 bucks per plate for dinner. They ask that you spend half of that on your donation. They provide a list of things the food bank needs most.
We still get mostly beans and noodles. And nowhere near the amount of noodles 15 bucks should buy. It annoys me every year.
This. How hard is it to pick up a few extra items when doing the shopping??!
That is so frustrating!
We did a food drive at school at Thanksgiving, and asked classes to try to organize it so they donated a "meal" instead of twenty cans of cranberry sauce.
The college I went did a "trick-or-eat" kind of event on Halloween. They do it every year and get a great response from the community. I remember going to one house in particular and the lady invited us into her home. Her house was huge and gorgeous and she walked us through to the kitchen and into her walk in pantry. Shen went through every can and non perishable in there and donated them all. About 300. (It was a big pantry) As she handed us the cans she checked each one. She found a few with dents and but wouldn't donate them because she wouldn't feed them to her family so she surely wouldn't want anyone to feed them to theirs. She made such an impact on me.
Okay one more
My pastor tells a story about a woman who looked in her freezer and found a butterball turkey that was 12 years old. She called the butterball hotline to ask if it was okay to make. They said since it's been frozen it was probably not harmful but it wouldn't taste right and she should throw it out. She said "oh I'll just give it to the church"
No matter how much you make surely you can set aside a mere $15 to help someone who needs it. It is shameful the way some people act and yes, they do just suck.
Why, why, why even bother?!? Why not buy one nice new toy for a kid who just lost everything. That beats ten bags full of crap!
