Sleeping 9 hours?

Our LO just hit 10lbs at her 2 month check last week so I thought we had a while yet before she started STTN. We are strictly FF now because of allergy and weight gain issues. Last weekend she started sleeping from around midnight-6am. We thought this was great! Last night she fell asleep around 8pm like she usually does. We woke her up around 11:30pm to feed her and she ate 5oz. We put her down around midnight and she slept until 9am this morning! She fussed a little around 6am so I put the paci back in her mouth and she slept soundly until 9am.

When I got her up at 9am she wasn't even screaming like she does when she is hungry. We fed her and she ate another 5oz.

My question- is this too long without eating? I feel like she is still really small to be going 9 hours without eating. I'm super excited about getting 9 hours of sleep but not if she doesn't need to be going that long between feedings.

  • In my opinion, if she is hungry, she will wake up. If My child slept that long I would be crying tears of joy and beating the crap out of anyone who tried to wake him LOL

  • I believe you are over the weight mark of being concerned about low blood sugar. My pedi had me waking up LO after 5 hours when she was first born with this concern. We stopped doing that awhile ago though and wait for her to wake up, and the pedi is fine with it. Our LO is just over 10 lbs now too.

Sounds to me like you're doing a good job of keeping her belly full during the day. Hope she keeps up being a good sleeper!

  • I wouldn't worry about it either, like PP said if she is hungry she will wake up. Ashley has been averaging about 5-7 hour stretches for about a month now and that was when she hit 10lbs and has had no problems, we told her pedi yesterday and he said it was perfectly fine and she is now 12lbs 4 oz. Enjoy it ;-)
  • I would guess that Asher is about 10.5 lbs right now. For about two weeks he's been sleeping from 12am until 8am. I agree with PPs...they will wake up when they are hungry. Enjoy the sleep!
  • I hate all of you. Lol. I get three hour stretches
