Yesterday. G got the flu on Friday, and by Sunday we were in ER due to low blood sugars, as she was vomiting and had diarrhea and wouldn't drink any clear liquids- only BM, which made it worse. We were admitted Sunday afternoon, and stayed till yesterday afternoon. I really hope that we don't have to do that again. She is at home with DH now, and he is trying to get her to drink anything. I had to go back to work, because on top of everything else, I had mono for the last 2 months, and took a boatload of time off for that. So, I stayed in the hospital, and DH is now with her at home, but it makes me nervous, because he is more relaxed about needing to try to get her to eat. If she doesn't start taking more in, we will be back to the hospital. Plus, there is a blizzard on the way tonight for our area. Joy.
Anyone else have this awful bug in their family? I don't think we will go home for Christmas due to it. I want G to have a good immune system before she interacts with all of our family, most of whom are sick.
I am wondering if it would be a good idea to talk to her Ped about a tube. Her refusal is pretty strong, and although she was getting better prior to being sick, she really hit us with a whammy of not taking in anything from Friday on (minus a few oz of breastmilk, that kept coming back up). Our Ped said that there have been studies showing that if a child gets dehydrated enough, they will drink the Pedialyte/jello/broth/etc. I am here to tell you; they will not.
My stubborn little princess.

Notes:
Ugh, that sucks, sorry! Do you mean the actual flu, or a GI virus? We've had both fly through our house since the beginning of November, and no one has been well enough to even get the flu shot. DS had a cold that really hit him hard and ended up almost back inpatient. They caught it early, stopped his body from reacting, did MRI and lots of blood work and got his immune system under control. Now I'm sorting a wicked sinus infection and possible bronchitis, so ds can't really hang around me.
Ditto the suggestion of the syringe, it used to work for us.
