I'm thinking about apps for a holiday party that we are going to this weekend. I was thinking an inexpensive but yummy app could be that I made our crusty bread, hollow it out and put a dip in it. Any good recipes for dips that would be good with bread?
Re: Dips for crusty bread?
Warm spinach artichoke
BLT dip
Buffalo Chicken dip (Crack dip)
Plain ole Onion dip
A nice "Italian" dip with mozzarella and basil
This is actually insanely amazing (and wicked easy to make.)

Crack dip - because it's as addictive as crack.
Italian dip
I make a beer dip that's really easy. I usually serve it with pretzels, but it would be good with crusty bread too.
2 8 oz pkgs of softened cream cheese
1 8 oz container of sour cream
1 pkg of dry ranch dressing
1/2 to 3/4 can or bottle of beer (a darker beer works best. I used a winter seasonal lager last time I made it and it turned out really tasty)
2 cups shredded cheese (I use a cheddar mix)
bundle of green onions chopped
6 pieces (approx) of bacon, crumbled
Mix together sour cream. cream cheese and dressing. I also put a little less than half of the onions and bacon in at this time, save the rest for garnish. Add half a cup of shredded cheese. Slowly pour the beer in until the desired consistency. Refrigerate at least 3 hours or overnight. Top with remaining cheese, bacon, and onions.
It takes hardly anytime to put together!
Tysons, do you make this on the stovetop, or food processor? Also, you reserve 1 1/2 c. cheese for topping, or did you mean you reserve 1/2 c. cheese for the topping?
I use a mixer, you don't heat it at all. The original recipe just has the cheese, bacon, and onion as topping, but I like it better with 1/2 cup of the cheese, about half of the onion and the bacon mixed in the actual dip. It's good stuff.
Edison sighting! Woo hoo!
Tapanade sounds good, too.
