Back story- I had major issues with my supply so my initial plan to EBF went out the window week two, despite pumping extra, fenugreek, oatmeal, etc. and working with the LC. It was very frustrating because she latched like a champ! So I tried to BF and top her off with formula (similac sensitive) as well as pump even if pumping only produced maybe, on a good day, 1-2oz total. By week 6, I was pretty much dry. I never got engorged and never leaked.
So after giving her all the rest of BM I pumped and froze we are now strictly FF as of this past weekend- still on Similac sensitive. I have noticed since she is now FF she spits up after almost every meal but not right away. She is 8 weeks, approx. 10lbs and eats 4oz every 3-4 hours. We burp her first, keep her upright then about 15 min. later she spits up several times. We also have burped her after every oz. and she still spits up. And now she is like the drool monster after feedings too! Also, she is very gassy. She gets gas pains so bad she screams, grunts, cries for an extended period of time and she has a very hard time going to the bathroom although her poop is normal, not like she is constipated. We've tried gas drops and that doesn't really work and we also do bicycle with her legs, massage her tummy etc.
I've put a call into the Dr. as we don't have her 2month check up until the first week of January. But I'm wondering if I should switch formulas or try a probiotic. Do you think it may be reflux? I don't feel like she has the classic signs of reflux. What are your suggestions ladies? For those of you who FF, what type of formula do you use?
Thanks for reading my long post!
Re: Transition to strictly FF and suggestions please!
We had the complete opposite experience. Enfamil gentalease gave ds terrible gas! Switching to Similac sent active helped,so much! Also, what type of bottle are young? We started with advent (which were terrible) now using dr. Browns things are much better!
