Gerber Lil Crunchies and Yogurt Melts

DD is 7 months this week and isn't crawling but she is a roller and sits unassisted. She has been eating solids since 5 months and does fine with mum mums and Ella's kitchen cookies. I know the package says for "crawler" but do you think it's ok to give them to her? I know she won't be able to pick up the yogurt melts yet because she still palms items but I thought it would be good practice.

  • Check with your pedi!  I mentions that DS had tried cheerios, and she said to try to hold of on the crunchier foods.  Not sure why.  He has two giant teeth on the bottom and is working on his top teeth.  I thought the same about good practice, but what do I know?!  lol!!

  • Yogurt melts and puffs should be fine, we were given the ok for both at 6mo.  I'm not sure about the lil crunchies, we haven't tried them yet.

  • I'd definitely check with your doctor first since he knows your baby best (after you, of course) but I will say that the Crunchies are better when they have a good pincer grasp. It's a fairly large piece and it may be too much for a younger baby if she were to palm the whole thing into her mouth at once. They melt quickly but you definitely don't want her to be gagging or choking. My son really loves the Cinnamon Maple ones and he always smells like breakfast after eating them no matter how well I wipe his face and hands!

  • Those stages aren't meant to be literal but rather a general guideline to give you an idea of what readiness they should have.  Some kids never crawl - doesn't mean they have to skip the "crawler" foods, kwim?  They're just saying not to give them under your child is around the average age of a crawler so that they are developmentally ready.

  • I give them to O and he isn't crawling, but he doesn't really care to call, he'd rather stand.  He can't do the yogurt melts though, too small for his hands to pick up.  He loves the tomato cheeto things though!

  • I am trying the yogurt melts again tonight. She had them before and didn't like them. I have given her the crunchies and she does fine with them. I give more puffs than anything for a snack to practice picking them up.
