Not the place I want to be at 23 weeks thats for sure! I have been having what I assume is braxton hicks for a few weeks now. Its never been painfull or consistant so I just made sure I drank alot of water and put my feet up when possible. Last night they were consistent and accompanied by mild period like cramping. Called my OB and since he is super cautious he told me to go to hospital. They checked me in, put me on an IV of fluids (which I didnt need because my urine was crystal clear) and monitered baby and contractions. Sure as shiit, i was having very "mild" contractions 3 minutes apart on and off over a couple hours. They did a sono, checked my cervix and my urine and everything looks fine! Great news, right! So they sent me home. Following up with my doctor tonight. In the mean time, Im a nervous wreck as to what could be the cause and even more nervous about hearing the words bed rest. Anyone experiance contractions this early with no explainable cause??
Re: Spent the night in labor and delivery :(
I've got no words of encouragement for you.. I'd say stay off your feet as much as you can. Get some rest and relaxation, and as hard as it seems - try not to be a nervous wreck/worrisome - I'm convinced the littles can totally feel that stress. And definitely keep seeing/contacting your OB.
Keep your chin up
No experience but I'm so sorry that you had to be in L&D! Glad everything is ok and you went in to get checked out.
I had early pre-term contractions with DD at 32-33 weeks but definitely not as early as you. I was put on bedrest for 3 weeks.
I'm so sorry you are experiencing this. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hopefully you won't have to go on bedrest at all.

Glad you are ok! Try and find some time to get some relaxing in, it can be tough around the holidays! Lots of thoughts and prayers your way!
The nurse mentioned something last night about some people having sensitive iritable uturus's . Hopefully thats all it is. Thats terrible that you had to worry so much! Im hoping for the best! Thanks for your encouraging words!

I went through the same thing last night, with the same outcome! My primary reason for going in was back pain though (along with increased braxton hicks), and I came out with no relief for the back pain!
glad you're ok, too! hopefully it was just a one time fluke :-)
This should help. I have an irritable uterus. I start contracting really early. I had one dr tell me not to worry and an other put me on bedrest. Both times I went all the way to term plus a day or two(my middle one was the same bedrest dr). With no actual dialating it's just BH and nothing to worry about. You did good going in with the cramping though. That was a good call.
i can relate with my 2nd pregnancy i was dialating and having contractions regularly at 16 weeks. It was scary cuz the nurses kept telling me the baby wasnt viable until 26 weeks, but the good news is he stayed in until 34 weeks and was fine. I ended up on bed rest at 17 weeks w/him and hospital bed rest at 20weeks (shots and steroids were used to stop labor mulitiple times. When I was prego with number 3 out of percausion they put me on bed rest at 18 weeks, cuz again I started havng noticiable contractions at 16 weeks. He was born healthy and even though I had a total sedentary job, the stress of not having to get up and go to work did really help. With this 4th pregnancy, i have (knock on wood) have not had any contractions or dialation yet. So I am hoping to work up until March since I am the only one working FT in our family. but either way it will work out. T&P that the contractions are just a fluke and subside.
Lurking from August 2013, 3x mom here, irritable uterus
I had this issue with all 3 of my previous pregnancies, and you really have to be careful with it, because it can very easily become pre-term labor. I was hospitalized a couple of times with my first because it progressed to the point of starting to cause cervical changes. I carried to term with all 3 kids, so no worries.
For most BH you can drink a glass of water and lie on your left side for a bit, and that will calm them.
If you are having them too frequently you can talk to your Dr. about medication to take for it on an as-needed basis, I believe what mine had me on was called Breathine? It makes you feel like absolute crap, but stops the ctx when the usual methods don't. I don't know if this is the normal coarse of treatment, or if it is because I have a history of preterm labor. My last pregnancy I was given the prescription at 23 weeks and needed to start taking it around 25 weeks.
I had a round of contractions Monday evening (about 5 during my 15 minute commute home from work) that calmed down as long as I was laying down. Called in and the nurse said that as long as they stay calmed down I should call to schedule a dr appt within the next couple days.
Saw NP at drs' office and she checked me for a yeast infection (which I have) as it can cause an irritable uterus to have bh contractions more than normal. I had no symptoms of a yeast infection so I wasn't expecting those results but from what the NP said yeast infections in pg women don't always have the usual symptoms.
I was on bedrest for just yesterday to keep the bh contractions calm until the med to treat the yeast infection had a chance to start working.

Went to the Dr last night to follow up. He thinks its just braxton hicks considering I'm not dialating and my uterus isn't shortening or thinning. He wants me back next week to check my cervix again. For the mean time I will take it easy and hydrate! Thanks for all your kind words and advice!
