My Lo is sick :(

Anyone have a sick baby yet? Liam is 7weeks old and just caught his sisters yucky cold. Congested and coughing. No fever but i feel awful for him.

I tried to suck out his nose and i started to panic. Like i was going to choke him on flem. Is that possible or does it just sound worse then it is? Never had a sick baby this young before.

my heart is breaking :(

Re: My Lo is sick :(

  • Yep, my little guy is on his second cold, both given to him by his older sisters and their preschool germs! He sounds awful, but seems happy, so I don't worry about it. I use saline spray and it seems to help a lot, although he projectile vomits sometimes after eating when he chokes on phlegm running into his throat. Last time it lasted about a week and then he was fine; hoping this one is shorter. I was planning to transition him to his bedroom and crib this week, but now I'm waiting since it makes me nervous moving him while he's sick. Hope that your little guy feels better soon!

  • DS has had a cold for over a week, and he just now is starting to get over it. We've had to use saline drops and the aspirator every day or he wasn't able to breath. Poor little guy. I hope your LO feels better soon!

Here are some tips that the nurse gave us for helping him be comfortable through the cold:

    - Put a towel under one end of his crib mattress (I think this is to elevate his head so that the mucus would drain out instead of him swallowing it)

    - Keep the temperature in your house at 65-67 degrees

    - Run a humidifier in his room at night

  • Yes, my babies just got over a virus- low fever and diarrhea for 5 days. We ended up in ER on Saturday for dehydration. Hope Liam feels better soon!

  • Thank you ladies. He does seem to be fine. Im just worried of the what ifs that could happne. But his older sisters have not had fevers-so i guess thats a good sign.

Its going down his throat and not out his nose.

He sleeps reclined in the RnP, and he slept soundly all night as usual.

His little innocent coughs seems so sad

  • We went to my work Christmas party last night, and he was passed around like a hot potato. I'm now terrified he's going to get sick. :(
  • Yep Ashley has been congested for over a week on and off. Whenever I lay her flat she coughs and I feel so bad. The first night she was sleeping in her Rnp and she sounded so snotty I had her sleep on my chest and she didn't make the icky snot noise the whole time.
  • My LO had a cold at 3 wks that seemed to drag on forever. Ugh. I took him to the pedi twice for it to make sure it wasn't something more serious, like RSV. It totally sucks when they are miserable and can't breathe! I feel for you!

Here's what helped my LO. Use plenty of saline and an aspirator and clean your LO out before he eats or goes to sleep. That will help him breathe better. Run a cool mist humidifier. Hold LO in the shower with you so the steam helps to relieve his congestion. Also, put him to sleep on an incline...a swing or RnP are your friend right now. Good luck!
  • DD just started with a cold.  Her little nose sounds so sad!  the Nose Frida has been AWESOME!  I was creeped out by it but after I used it last night, I highly recommend it!
