TTC After a Loss

Waiting to Pee after FWP?

The other night after we had sex during FW, DH said, "Wait, you can't get up. You need to lay on your back with your legs in the air for at least ten minutes." Why, do you ask? Because he is convinced it will "give his swimmers a head start."

He said that I need to do this to give us the best chance at getting pregnant. I said it is a big myth and it is begging for a urinary tract infection.

SOOOOO Do any of you do this? Do you wait to pee after FWP, specifically with your legs in the air? Or do you run to the bathroom immediately, (hello, UTI!?)?

ETA: Emphasis on legs in the air. Or propping up your pelvis with pillows. Each things DH thinks needs to be done after FWP. Do you do these things while waiting to pee?

  • I stay in bed for like 15 minutes, no legs in the air. Then I pee to avoid a UTI.

I stay in bed for a few mins...but do go use the bathroom within a 10 mins or so. I've never had a UTI, so...so far, so good. And not gonna lie- I have put my legs up in the past lol

This is my FW and when I got up to go to pee last night after we had sex he was like, "What are you doing?! Go lay down!" lol

When you are laying down, do you put your legs in the air? This sounds like a perverted questions but you know what I mean. Do you try to "help the swimmers?"

  • I was thinking the same thing and it got me a UTI since I would not go pee after. So now I learned my lesson and after 5 min I go to the bathroom.
  • Mine says the same. I lay down for a few minutes, sometimes put a pillow under my hips. Everytime I've done it, it's worked.

  • No legs in the air lol, but I do wait a bit before I get up. Not long enough to cause a UTI though lol.

  • When we were TTCAL last time, I totally laid in the bed with my pelvis lifted or legs in the air for at least 5 minutes- and then I would go pee. Before we got pregnant this last time, I laid in bed for 5 or so minutes but without my legs in the air. Who knows what we'll do while TTCAL this time, I'll definitely lay in bed for a bit, but if I raise my legs will depend on how long TTC is taking and how desperate I start feeling lol

  • I don't think the position of your legs has anything to do with your uterus or cervix, since, they bend at your hip.

But as far as UTIs go, it takes longer than 10 minutes for one to develop so I think waiting 10 minutes to pee is just fine.

Agreed that the legs in the air thing is crazy!  But the pillow under the pelvis like PPs said is starting to make sense..

I hope UTIs take longer than 10 min. Those things are a b!tch.

  • I will admit I have done this (well, legs in the air, don't think it was 10 minutes)...and I think it was during the months I got pregnant both times.  I don't think you will get a UTI from waiting a few minutes to pee.  Of course, as DH likes to point out, I don't think all the girls his teenage cousins have KU are out there putting there legs in the air after sex, but that's another vent.
