Tranisitioning sleep

right now, LO either falls asleep at my breast or being rocked in my arms. i want to try and get it so that she can fall asleep by herself in her crib. i have tried putting her down when drowsy, but that does one of two things, cause her to throw a huge fit and cry and complain, or to wake up thinking it's play time. she happens to be rolling about her crib now, AFTER crying and complaining, she did both this time!

keep in mind i do not wish to try any CiO methods please. what do i do? just pick her up and keep trying it until she gets the hint?

Re: Tranisitioning sleep

  • kind of going through the same thing with my son... i rock him to sleep for naps and bedtime.  sometimes when i lay him down he pops his eyes open immediately.  i try and sneak out quickly and sometimes he'll fall asleep other times its a no go and I either go in and rock him back to sleep or just get him up.  i wish he could put himself to sleep consistently but its yet to happen.  in regards to what the previous poster said im not sure i agree that it only will get harder for them to learn the older they get... when my daughter was a baby i followed the same bad habits of rocking and laying her down asleep and then one day we just put her in her crib and she fell asleep on her own and has been ever since... im keeping my fingers crossed that my son will follow suit.

I did that with my LO in the past because I felt awful when he'd start crying but once I left him to do his thing, he cried briefly then fell asleep. Whatever you decide, just be consistent and it should work itself out.

the problem is that, we let her down, and she will cry, but she has never been able to get past the crying. she can go forever if you let her. thats kinda why i don't want to CiO because in the past, she will just roll around sobbing. until she cries herself to sleep.
