April 2013 Moms

Our Son's Name Is:

Captain Awesome.

Or, that is what we are telling Facebook.

We have decided not to share the name that we have picked on FB or with the majority of people for a few reasons.  We picked the name years ago, and we are naming him after our fathers- so we just don't want to deal with the "why did you pick THAT name?" or "Did you consider such and such?"

We also want to have a little something to surprise people with since we were weak and wanted to find out the sex :-)

The most fun part is that people are actually referring to him as Captain or as Awesome, which is pretty adorable (to us).  DH's nickname in high school was Captain, so it works :-)   A friend actually had a Patriots jersey made for him with "Captain Awesome" on it.

Is anyone else keeping the name secret, or using a silly nickname?

  • I've talked to one friend about our name choices, knowing she would never give me her opinion unless she liked the name. No one else needs to know because I don't want to hear what they think.

  • i wish i could keep that kind of secret. we told people almost as soon as we decided on the name. we havent told on FB, but most of our family and friends know.

  • We refer to our LO as Miss Peanut and won't tell anyone the name either!  If people really push, I tell them her name is Chlamydia Gonorrhea [Last name].  That usually shuts 'em up!

  • We told the name already. When we were posting on FB what choices we were considering, I know we got opinions from others but I really don't remember what they were. The only comments I've heard on our name is that 1) it's popular (which I don't care, I like it), and 2) MIL says it doesn't 'sing' with the last name - whatever that means lol

  • We're also keeping it a secret...my friends call him unknown baby since they know he has a name that i'm not sharing. We even got Christmas cards addressed to us + unknown baby lol

  • Silly nickname for us.  Ndamukong.  (As in Ndamukong Suh from the Detroit Lions - & former Husker). We're two totally goofball/nerdy white kids, about as far away/polar opposite from a Cameroon name meaning House of Spears that I sort of get a kick out of people's reactions when we tell them.

Best reaction to the name was my 6-year old niece.  My sister called after we had dinner with them, and apparently in the car on their way home, she said "Mom, I really hope they have a girl . . . . I don't want it to be that football name. . . ".

Probably because until we found out what we were having, our fake girl's name was Katniss.   :-)

Myles was so pumped about the baby . . . until he figured out he'd have to share all his toys!!!

  • We keep our names a secret until delivery also. I think it drives my mom nuts, but I don't want unsolicited opinions.

  • Our baby is called Broccoli for now, and will be till he/she is born.  A few close friends and my sister know the name we've chosen, but my parents don't want to know.  We'll probably avoid sharing it with the general public (other than on here, obvs!).  I have some great fake names that sound fine, but when combined with our last name are really terrible.  I'll probably tell those to nosy strangers and acquaintances.

Captain Awesome was a character on the NBC show Chuck.  I miss Chuck.

That's where we got it from :-)
