2nd Trimester

movement feels different the 2nd time around?

With E, I was feeling kicks at 15 weeks. They felt like tiny little pokes or twinges in my abdomen.

This time I was expecting to feel the same thing, but at 16 weeks still hadn't felt any movement (that I was aware of). Last night I was listening to baby on the doppler and when it moved/kicked I felt this bubbly feeling low in my abdomen. I'd felt it before but thought it was gas or tummy gurgling. Apparently what I'd been feeling was baby moving around.

So, those of you that have had more than one pregnancy: did your baby movements feel the same with both kids, or were they different?

  • With my 1st pregnancy, which was 6years ago so I have to try really hard to remember exactly what it felt like. Well I didn't feel movement until really late and I honestly could of chalked it all up to gas. With this one I was feeling "flutters" at around 14 weeks and after a couple days of really paying attention to it I knew it wasn't gas and it feels so different then what the first one did. Kinda of like popcorn.

  • My last one was 7yrs ago, but I'm pretty sure I was feeling her a lot sooner (flutters around 14w) than this one, even though I was still feeling this one earlier than the average (more like 16-17w), and even though they say that most women feel 2nd+ babies a bit sooner because you know what you're feeling in there.

  • Yes ? with my second I had an anterior placenta and the early movements felt different. I don't know if it was because of my placenta placement or not?

  • I had an anterior placenta with DD#1 so I am definitely feeling DD#2 much earlier and more strongly than I did with her.

(To PP: yeah, that's totally the reason.  Anterior placenta = harder to feel and you won't feel as soon.)

  • At 14 weeks I only felt light flicks now, it feels like a massive bubble in my belly and it can really kick now but I am also 17 weeks and baby is a lot stronger now than at 14 weeks.

  • Yep, I felt this one earlier, and it felt like a fish in my belly. Just very small movements. But since my Dr's appt yesterday I'm starting to question myself because I found out I have an anterior placenta. But I thought I felt the baby at 13 weeks, but everything I read about an anterior placenta says you feel baby way later.

  • I'm starting to wonder if I have an anterior placenta. I won't have my a/s until mid January, but I'm just not feeling movement like I did with DD.

Of course, it could be any number of things. Oh well.

  • Mine feel different, but I have an anterior placenta this time around so the kicks have always been more subtle and not really as strong as they were with DS.
  • With my first I felt the baby for the first time at 18 weeks I believe, with this one it was 15 weeks. With my first the kicks were really light and fluttery for quite awhile and this one jumped right into full blown soccer worthy kicks.
