Mobile: moms with dogs
How are you navigating walks with your dogs? Today was my first day alone with dog and baby and the walk wasn't so bad but I am dreading when it is snowing/raining/a lot colder or DS is in the middle of a nap. I guess if you live in the burbs you can just open the backdoor and let the dog outside but we live in the city and have to walk. Also DH often works late so I may have to take dog and baby out at 10 pm by myself. Just wondering what other moms are doing.
Re: Moms with dogs
I don't have a backyard but I live on a cul de sac with a huge area of rocks at the end of the street. I will wait until the baby is sleeping and let Roxy out to pee but I am able to just stand in the front doorway and she runs to the rocks and pees.
Do you have a baby radio you could use while you take the dog out real quick? Is there a place in front of your door where your dog can pee so you aren't actually leaving your house?
DH walks our dog in the morning and I do the afternoon walk with LO in the stroller. It's kind of difficult because LO's nap times are still not predictable and there's a window when I have to walk the dog (before it gets dark, but not so early that he'll have to go again.) He's not leash trained so he's all over the place and the leash gets tangled up in the stroller, which is a city mini with the car seat adaptor. Once I did our walk with LO in the mei tai carrier and it was much easier, but I have bad feet so I can't do that every day - but if I could that is what I would do. Bending down to pick up the poop while wearing LO is a little tricky but doable.
I used to use the snap'n'go for walks but those tiny wheels were a huge PITA on the sidewalks.
I bought a rain cover on amazon for the stroller. I think this one https://www.amazon.com/Jeep-Deluxe-Stroller-Weather-Shield/dp/B001CUPT76
I aired it out for weeks but it still has a plastic smell that makes me uncomfortable and I worry about air flow for her - but I guess it's the only solution for rain. I live in CA so I don't have to worry about snow.
Haha! We are crappy dog parents too, we dont even get up to let him out anymore, we put in a doggy door. We do have him on a diet plan though... His food is on a shelf and he has to jump up on a stool to eat. If he gets too fat to jump, he can't eat. Actually, we put it there when Daron was learning to crawl and it just stayed.
When she was first born, we would go on family walks after dh got home from work bc it was still light out; he'd take them, I push the stroller. Now it's too cold, it's dark when he gets home and there's been numerous coyote sightings so we do not walk at night anymore. Just weekends.
It's hard now that its dark early and cold to get them the exercise they need so they don't drive me bat sh!t crazy.
And I'm a crappy dog parent because I send him to daycare and will do so at least twice a week even though I know he'd rather be home with me.
