Two Under 2

Naps and bedtime

I'm having trouble being able to get DD2 to sleep in her crib. Not because she won't, but because DD1 won't allow it.

I will swaddle and rock DD2 and she goes to sleep very easily. If I try to go put her in her room DD1 will follow and make noise, get into stuff, etc and wake her up. I've tried sneaking out of the living room without her noticing, but little turd comes a running. So I'm having to put her in her mamaroo for naps and at bedtime until DD1 goes to sleep and I can move her.
Now she is getting older and more aware of Her surroundings so loud DD1 sometimes wakes her and her naps are short.
She is still at the point where she will sleep wherever I put her so I really hate that I'm possibly creating a habit of her having to sleep in the mamaroo.

Any suggestions?

Re: Naps and bedtime

  • I did iPad in the hallway or in the room (low volume) while I nursed to sleep. It wasn't ideal but it worked

We also practiced "shhh" and whispering whenever we saw a door closed so if her brother was sleeping (his door shut) she would be quiet. White noise in baby room also blurred out any noise she or the iPad made in the hallway.

That is a great idea! She LOVES to watch Baby Einstein movies on my phone and sort of blocks off the entire world when she is watching it. I ordered a Kindle Fire and it should be in tomorrow so that will be perfect. While I am putting DD2 to sleep, DD1 is very well behaved. She will sit and read her books or play with toys. She knows that they have to "take turns". It's when I get up, she has to follow. This idea just might work! Thank you!
