February 2012 Moms

Okay soo...kinda long.

So I went out of town Saturday evening and stayed overnight at my cousins house without C. I had fun, until it was around 11 something and I went to bed. I MAYBE got a total of 3 hours of sleep. I couldn't fall asleep then I kept waking up every 30 mins-1 hour and then had trouble getting back to sleep. I also had dreams about C. some were bad, some weren't. Needless to say, overall I had fun BUT I am not so sure when the next time I will be able to be without him overnight. lol

Also, he had his 9 month check up today (even though he is 10 months) it went well, he cried as usual even though he didn't get any shots. He had a slight ear infection last week and it is already clear. He wieghed 19 pounds and is 29 inches! So in the 25%tile for weight and 50th for height. Which I don't get because he averages at least 39 ounces a day PLUS eats 3 times a day and has a snack. I guess he just burns a lot of calories, which is why I try to give him lots of calorie rich foods. She said he can stand to eat more.. UGH! He eats A LOT!! Anyway, they did some blood work which was routine for this appt just to make sure his blood counts etc are normal (Did anyone elses LO have this done at 9 months? JW) We also discussed the size of his soft spot. His is still pretty big. She said that some don't fully go away until they are two, but she will research on it and let me know tomorrow what she thinks. Um, I didn't think to ask what they would do if it was abnormal, I mean it's a soft spot what could they do exactly? Some kind of bone graft? (I am obviously clueless about that) But everything as of now is fine and nothing to worry about or at least in my mind there isn't lol :)

  • DD is 19lbs and 28in. Her 9 month appointment was today too. They didn't tell me anything about her needing to eat more? She also told me they aren't really worried about the height to weight ratio yet. She still has a soft spot but now that you mention it, I don't think it's been checked in a while.

  • I'm glad he had an overall good check up! I'm not sure where you are located, but in the state of Ohio, it's required that all babies get blood work done at their 1 year appointment to check for anemia and lead levels. My pedi sent Eli at 9 months because we had other things to check, but it's probably just something routine they do.

  • They did a blood draw at Jackson's 9 month. Its to check his iron and if he has any lead in his system because we live in a house that was built before the 1970s. His lead count was really high and we had to bring him back in to get more blood drawn. She said sometimes the blood gets contaminated in the pricking process. So this time they did an iv draw and it came back normal. As far as the weight, our pedi said that the more active they are, the more calories they burn so they don't gain weight as fast as they did when they were immobile. I would just feed him healthy, filling meals and avoid empty foods that lack nutrition.

  • We had blood work done at their 9 month appointment as well.  I wouldn't worry about the soft spot and definitely wouldn't be worrying about bone grafts or anything of the sort.  Your doctor even said it could take until 2 to go away.  FWIW, I don't remember our doctor even checking their soft spots.

And with the overnight without him - the first time is the hardest.  The girls have spent quite a few nights at their grandparents house (maybe 4 or 5 times since they were born) and it's something I enjoy now.  It's definitely not something I would want to do often, but it's nice once in a while to go to the movies or to the city with friends and not have to worry about what time we get home and then get a good night's rest.  But the first time I was up all night and woke H up early to go get them Smile

  • Nat was around 19lbs/29in at her 9-month appointment and she is weird about eating (like won't eat a lot one day, but then another day will eat everything in sight). Your LO is probably normal, though, so try not to worry too much!

His is just as big as the day he was born, i don't think it has shrunk at all it's about 5 cm by 6 cm. Ah I hope it does get easier, I don't plan on doing that again for a  few months though. I just didn't remember anyone on here mentioning blood work at 9 months. Thanks.                                                            Thanks to everyone else too!
