Natural Birth

Overdue update and thanks to the NB board (long)

I posted about 5 or 6 weeks ago about feeling uncomfortable with my mega-sized OB factory and the bad vibes I was getting towards my desires to have a natural birth. I wanted to thank you all for the encouragement to tour the birthing center and make an educated decision, even though it was a bit later in the game (I'm 36.5w now, for mobile users that can't see my ticker).

We toured a birthing center that had a lot of good feedback (also recommended by our Bradley instructor, close to our house, and across the street from a top children's hospital). The center is run by an OB who was tired of hospital protocol, and a seasoned midwife. The center is a natural birth oasis with LLL meetings, NB moms clubs, etc. I love, love, love it!

DH finally climbed on board and decided he liked it a lot (he was the last one standing in the hospital birth camp) and felt very reassured when talking to the OB about her own experience with childbirth (she opted to pay OOP for a midwife delivery, despite 100% hospital coverage, plus the mock and ridicule of her OB peers). He also likes that it is uncomplicated and I'm happy. Additionally, the OB still has hospital privileges should we need to be transferred for complications.

This is my 4th week at the birthing center and I'm actually excited about my upcoming birth-day, rather than dreading a big "fight for my rights" at the hospital.  I was already going that direction, but I wanted to thank you all for the reassurance that it wasn't too late and I needed to feel comfortable.

So for all you ladies on the fence...it doesn't hurt to take a tour and check out your options. Sorry this is so long...here is a cookie if you are still reading <nom, nom>
