My mom is clueless

I have to first say I am not a religious person and I haven't attended church since I was a kid.

My mom sent C an early Christmas present since we won't be having Christmas with them until after the new year. It was a fisher price nativity set. Timely for the time of year but my mom really doesn't get our household if she thinks that this would be an appropriate gift. At least C can play with the animals in the set year round.

I told DH that I'd have to find a "my first menorah" set to balance out his side of the family too.

    Moms.  If she is anything like mine, she is in her own little world, and just thinks about what she likes.  She doesnt mean anything by it, just doesnt think that other people may have a different opnion.

    I understand not being religious and not attending church - but you were raised christian?  She is Christian (in some form or another)?  I'd say that's a totally normal gift for her grandchild for christmas then, if you consider where she is coming from.

    I attended church until jr high when my whole family stopped going. If she goes to church, it might be for a Christmas Eve service. That's it.

    I appreciate her thinking of C but it seems like an odd gift to give someone who is not at all religious and has made no mention of wanting anything like this ever. It's just one more thing to laugh about my mom for, since she does things like this all the time.
