Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Any reason to hold off on solids?

DS turned 6 months on Friday. We've been giving him oatmeal cereal per pedi's advice since about 4.5 months, and he does great with it. I called the dr's office to get their advice about solids, and they said it is fine to go ahead with veggies now or wait until we see the doctor in January. DS is sitting unassisted for short periods of time and eats 36 oz of formula a day. He has reflux, but it seems to be pretty well managed with Zantac. So would there be any reason to hold off on solids, or should we jump in with some squash this week? I thought I would be all gung-ho about this, but now I am kind of nervous to start.

Re: Any reason to hold off on solids?

  • I don't think there is any reason to hold off especially if Dr ok'd it. I would start with easy things on the belly with the reflux. We have reflux also. Do good with squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, prunes, peas. Pears and apples can be a bit acidic. Best of luck.

  • DD has reflux and is in Zantac. We started solids at 4 months. It had actually helped her reflux because solids digest faster than liquids.
