A's birthday is less than a couple weeks away and I want to make sure we are ready.
What did you like about your little one's party? What would you do differently?
Our plan is very casual. Party from 2 until 4. Snacks. Cake.
Did your baby open presents during the party? Before or after the cake?
Re: Any birthday party tips??
We had DS2's party yesterday. Just family, total of 15 people (including us).
It was from 12 to 3..served lunch finger foods, then the kids played ( I have DS1, two nephews and a niece all very close in age, so that was busy ) then had cake (saved a piece of cake for DS1 and DS2 for 12/19, DS2's actual birthday) and then more playing before people went home.
I just wish that DS2 had napped. He was exhausted by the time people left. I tried to get him to nap before the party that didn't work, then after he ate lunch I tried to get him to nap during the party. He ended up getting a second wind sometime after cake, and then napping when everyone left for an hour before dinner.
It was casual and fun wouldn't do anything different.
We had DS's birthday from 1:30 until people left, which was probably around 3:30
We did pulled pork I made in a slow cooker, which was a good idea b/c it was very low maitenance. Snacks and cake sound like a great option as well.
He did open presents and seemed to really enjoy playing with the paper.
We did too much that weekend and didn't leave enough time the day before to set up so I ended up really scrambling that morning. So if I had it to do over again I would have made sure that I had several hours the day before to set up decorations and things.
What did you like about your little one's party? I really liked that there were a few other kids there. They all played together and had a great time.
What would you do differently? I would have had more food! I made plenty of mac and cheese but for some reason didn't even think to get snacks like cheese and crackers, veggie tray, etc...
Did your baby open presents during the party? Yes, during the party
Before or after the cake? Before the cake! But that's because I let her smash into it and I didn't want the all the cake and frosting getting all over her toys and everything else. The cake smash was the very last thing we did.
Thanks for the input.
The snacks are tortilla roll-ups...turkey with cranberry boursin, ham and cheese, and salmon, cream cheese and capers. Something for everyone. And then finger foods as well.
What beverages did you offer? We are thinking coffee, tea, wine, water or santa cruz fruit drinks...
oh one other thing, DS was asleep when everyone initially showed up. That was actually a good hting. Deffinitely don't wake them b/c it put him in a good mood for the 2nd half of the party and the first half was just people talking and eating anyway.
Also, he did eat cake, last thing. Then we gave him a bath in the sink while everyone was still there.
On beverages, we had milk, beer, wine and sodas odas (small cans of sprite, our normal amount of cans of coke & diet coke, and for fun we had bottles of rootbeer and diet rootbeer).
We only had a small amount of beer and wine and DS had to go on a beer run so that is a good point. Just think about who is there. At DS's party there were a few kids, but it was mostly adults and they are really all beer drinkers so we probably could have had less sodas and more beer and wine. milk was a must though.
