DD does much better with the Playtex straw cup than a traditional sippy. I hope she gets good at the regular kind too though, but for now the straw cup is the only one she can get anything significant out of on the few occasions I offer it to her.
Someone on here (Karleesgirl?) said they were having good success with a cheap-o Take and Toss sippy. DD had been having trouble with the heavier/fancier cups, but she drinks from this one like a champ.
Well, she would if she could figure out how to hold it right-side up. But that's neither here nor there.

I tried the NUK ones you mentioned. Abby couldn't get anything out of them. We switched to the Playtex ones with the handles and she has a much easier time. We also have two cheap ones without handles, not sure of the brand they are the NFL ones with our local team's logo all over it, that she drinks from fine too. Her favorites are the ones with the handles though.
The nubys are her favorite. My sister told me to get the playtex ones with the hard plastic tip and she couldn't figure it out. I took the valve off temporarily and let her practice and then once I put the valve back on she had no issues.
I still like the nuby the best.

Ian likes the nuby the best. He will drink out of the playtex with the valve, but doesn't love them. I also got him one with a straw. He has a little bit of trouble with that one because he's so used to turning it up to drink out of it and that doesn't work with the straw ones. It's really a trial and error kind of thing. There's a playtex straw one that I've seen recommended a lot. You squeeze it and it sends the drink through the straw so LO gets the idea. I've looked for them several times and every time I do they're out.
I think it depends on the baby. My nephew prefers ones that you tip back and drink more like a bottle, the girls prefer straw ones. Their favorite ones were ones that my dad got from the flea market for a dollar each, but they threw them on the floor one too many times (after all, there's no better way to signify that they're done!) and now they don't seal properly when I put the covers on. On other ones I've had to use a knife to loosen up the opening on the valve, which has made some of our "leak proof" cups not so leak proof.

We've tried every cup out there, since DS still isn't drinking well from a bottle. If you do decide to go the straw route, I recommend the Lollacup. It's got a weighted straw, so it's touching the liquid no matter how much the cup is tilted, and even if there's only a small amount of liquid.
Out of the ones we have tried this is how I would rate them and why:
#1-Playtex straw cup. Its the one you squeeze. She has really liked this one. It took a few days to get how to use it. I can set this one out while she is playing and she will take a drink as she plays. Plus it doesn't spill!
#-2- Nuk sippy cup. This one is great for in the car or the crib since its no spill. If I give her a bottle in her carseat she winds up turning it upside down and formula leaks out everywhere. Occasionally I put an ounce of water in it if she wakes up at night and it doesn't spill out.
#3- Tommee Tippee. I like that its no spill but Lyla bites the tip and water pours out. She hasn't learned how to tip it up well enough to drink.
#4- Playtex Sippy with No Spill Valve- She doesn't like the hard tip and refuses to drink out of it.
Yep love the take n toss trainer cups. The trainer ones come with removable handles and it's smaller than typical sippy cups so dd can turn it up good. It's 7oz vs 10oz.
