IUI- first cycle... here we go!

Hi Ladies! DH and I started our first IUI cycle. I was put on Gonal-F, started it 4 days ago. I have Ovidrel to take when they give me the "Ok". I have an ultrasound in 2 days to see how I'm responding. We are obviously very new to all of this! For you ladies who have been through this... how long do they tend to keep you on the Gonal before making you ovulate (and do the IUI?) Then the god-awful 2 week wait and pray period I'm dreading. I'm also getting put on Crinone post procedure... little leary about that (intervaginal). Suggestions/tips for this? They fly through all the info in the office, then I think of all my questions after! arg! Thanks for the help!

Re: IUI- first cycle... here we go!

  • Hi! I was not on all of those meds until I started IVF, I only had Clomid with the IUI.  The Crinone suppository is supposed to be good.  They were going to put me on that after I went crazy with the pill form that you can take orally or vaginally.  Seriously, I thought I was possessed and dh was scared for his life.  So I have the progesterone shots.  I was super nevous for the iui and it was a breeze.  It is faster than an ultrasound, you lay there for 20 minutes and then you go home.  Try to stay busy for the 2 ww.  I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck!

  • I've never been on Gonal-F but I was on Menopur for both IUI cycles and into my IVF cycles as well. It varies between each person but my average length of time before taking the Ovidrel is around 11 days....although my 2nd IUI was almost cancelled so that wound up being 13 days but I think that was pretty unusual in terms of normal stim time. The IUI is kind of like a pap so its nothing to worry about too much. Its over really quick and then they have you lay there for 15-20min so maybe you can take a little nap :)

As for the Crinone, I've never been on that one before only Endometrin and Prometrium and will be on the injections this month. However, and maybe someone else can say if Crinone does the same thing, but I found it to be helpful to wear a panty liner or something since the suppositories got a little gross, blech :(

    Good luck :)

  • Good luck.  I've usually stimmed for around 8 days in IUI cycles taking 75iu of Gonal-F.  But the amount of time varies from person to person.  I don't think the Crinone is bad at all.  It's not all that messy; just wear a panty liner, and you might need to clean yourself out with your fingers every few days (gross, I know, but not bad in the grand scheme).  Good luck.
  • Good luck!!

  • We just triggered yesterday for our first IUI cycle!

I took Letrozole from days 3-7, and Gonal-F at 50iu from days 6-9 and then at 75iu from days 10-11. I had to take Ganirelix from days 9-11 as well, since my lining wasn't thick enough and they wanted my second follicle to catch up. The shots weren't too bad, except for the Ganirelix. Everything is sub-q, so it doesn't hurt too badly. It was the daily monitoring that was a pain, since I have tiny veins and they have to stick you so much! Couldn't tell you about the actual IUI itself yet, since that's tomorrow!

    Good luck!!!
