Dry heaves and eating

Hi guys,
Does eating after a round of dry heaving help at all? I'm up sick right now and am trying to figure out what to do to settle my stomach so I can go back to bed. Help!

  • Poor thing. I have no real advice, but wanted to extend my sympathies. Have you tried some tea to settle your tummy? Like good'ole Lipton? I've heard some say it works for their really nauseated tummies.

  • Thanks. I'll try it now. I've been too scared to leave the bathroom since I woke up around one. Gosh, if I'm feeling like this after only five weeks, I have no idea how I'm going to make it for nine months. :

I'm sorry that really stinks! You will have to try different things to figure out what works for you. Try ginger, peppermint, someone said frozen jolly ranchers, and bland flavored food like crackers or soup broth. Also, be sure to eat/drink a lot of protein. It helps curb the nausea.

I agree with this. Protein curbs the nausea. With your crackers, always force yourself to have some form of protein. You might need to choke it down, but afterwards you'll feel so much better. If you start feeling sick try to eat something like chicken noodle soup, cheese and crackers or peanut butter on toast. Nausea will hopefully back off for all of us in the second trimester.

  • So sorry, I am the queen of dry heaves. It's horrible. I wait a few min to let my tummy settle down then eat something.pp are right try to coke down something with protein it stays with you the longest. Food is the only thing that helps my heaving. Good luck

  • For me, salty carbs help.  Not eating and drinking at the same time helps as well.  I feel most sick when I'm hungry or if I've eaten too much.

But I had to get medication this time to help with the morning sickness.  I hope you feel better.

  • Thanks, everyone! I'm definitely going to head out after work to find those pregnancy pops I keep hearing about, as well as everything you guys listed below. I hate feeling this way, but it seems as though as long as I keep munching away, the queasy feeling is kept relatively at bay. Here's hoping I could actually get some rest tonight, and my little Appleseed doesn't get angry with mommy again, lol
