Talk to me about DDD

My son has SPD and has been in therapies for 6 months.  His OT is transferrring his care to in home as he is doing so well that she feels he doesn't need the clinic setting anymore.  He receives ST in home each week.  So this week his ST said she thinks he might qualify for DDD.  She explained a little to me, but not alot, just saying that if he was DDD, he would qualify for services later than just the early intervention would do.  Does anyone know about DDD and why they would recommend applying for this and switching him to that.  I am so confused about this as I was always told that DDD is for more "severely" delayed kids.  Help!

Re: Talk to me about DDD

  • I'm not sure what DDD is. I'm wondering if it's similar to the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs that we have here? My son's evals last year showed mild to moderate delays but he qualified for DDSN eligibility as an "at-risk child" (especially since he started in EI so close to turning 3) so he's able to keep his Early Interventionist till he turns 5.
