Babies on the Brain

TTC

My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for the last 6 months. I have Ovulation apps on my phone that I go by because they seem to be accurate, we are having sex probably 3 of the 5 window days and we have yet to get pregnant. Any help on what I can do to take the next step? maybe take some pre natal vitamins, or go to the doctor? I know your not supposed to go to the doctor unless its been a year though. My husband is in the Navy and trying to plan a baby when he is not away on deployment is hard, let alone trying to have a baby and it's not working. Is there any Ovulation Predictor Kits that might help me? I have never used one before so I don't know the good brands or the accurate ones. I know there is so many couples frustrated while TTC..and I'm just one of them!

Re: TTC

  • Are you charting? Those apps are useless unless it's based off you charting your temp every morning.

  • Definitely start charting your temperature daily, and use the Fertility Friend app and read their "lessons" on charting.. It's the only way to know when you ovulated. Use a basal thermometer. The one preferred by the TTC board is the Mabis. You can get it on Amazon for about 8 or so; I believe Walmart carries it too, and probably Walgreens, CVS, etc.

OPKs are good too. You can get a ton for cheap on Amazon, the Wondfo brand. Maybe 50 tests for 16. OPKs tell you when your body is gearing up to ovulate. It is possible that your body gets ready to ovulate and then doesn't, so you could have positive OPKs but you wouldn't know you didn't ovulate unless you were charting your temperature.

OPKs are positive when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line, and negative if the line is lighter. This is different from pregnancy tests, where any line is a positive.

Also sometimes OPKs are only positive for 12 hours or so, so it's best to do 2 a day.

Good luck!! With my first baby, I just had lots of sex during the "middle" of my cycle, and 3 cycles later, I was pregnant. Now we're trying for number 2, and it's been 5 months so I'm now starting to chart, temp, and use OPKs. Wish it was easy again!

  • I also reccommend charting your temp and most of the women on here use Fertility Friend!! Good luck!

  • You should have started prenatal vitamins before you even started trying.  They won't help you get pregnant, but they'll help your baby more if you've taken them regularly beforehand, not after you find out.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I have not been charting because I was not sure how to but I will be trying everything you guys said! thanks for the help...
  • It's recommended that you start pre-natals 3-6 months before TTC so the folic acid can build up in your system.
