vbac hunt?

Hi all!!

Right now, we are 6 weeks along with baby #2 :) Unfortunately, my ob/gyn is no longer accepting ob patients. So we are now on the hunt for someone who is willing to do a vbac. The hospital in the city we live in doesn't allow them so we are searching in slightly bigger cities that are about 30 min away.

Anyone else going to try for a vbac or has already had one?

Anyone have to find a doctor/hospital willing to do it?

Re: vbac hunt?

  • With my second, I was going to attempt a vbac but it didn't pan out due to low fluid. My advice is to get in touch with your local ICAN chapter. Check out their website as well because you will find tips about how to assess if a dr is truly vbac friendly. GL

  • I'm hoping for a VBAC. Some of the doctors at our hospital do it, some don't. My OB does them, but I need to check with him to find out what happens if I go into labor when he's on vacation or something. The doctor on call may not do them, so my guess is I'd be out of luck.

  • I agree with looking for your local ican chapter. They will have the best information.

My OB's first question for me was to make sure I wanted to try for a VBAC. So we are going to try and I'm happy about it. It is so unfortunate that more doctors won't allow VBAC. They are perfectly safe and reasonable in most cases. I just don't get it.

There is also a VBAC board here with lots of good information.

Ooooo ok, that's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure!!!

    Thanks
  • I'm hoping for one but not too optimistic. I come from the state with the highest c/s rate in the country in an area where VBACs are all but unheard of (and very unpopular if you mention you want to try one). I'm with the most VBAC-friendly doc I could get in with and plan to hire a doula to be with me during labor since DH works offshore he may or may not be in. This is all hopeful thinking for right now, though.

  • well I tried to vbac for  my second child and it didnt work out so well. it was all good until we got to the pushing and she got stuck. she was still up too high for the dr to assist with the birth. I have a pretty patient ob. what really sucked was ending up in a csec. I lost a lot of blood because they had to pull her out of my pelvis. so I felt like crud for about a week and had to stay in the hospital longer.with all that said im a very small person. im 4' 11" and was told a vaginal birth in any situation would have been difficult forward  me. so I still think a vaginal birth should be tried if its something u really want. I dont regret doin it but I would have regretted not trying.

  • There's a vbac board here. Iris is awesome and a wealth of knowledge if you are interested.

  • I had a VBAC with #2 10 months (yes, 10 months) after my c-section with #1, and then went on to have another successful vaginal birth. It was definitely worth it!

  • I tried to have a VBAC with my second and ended up with a ruptured uterus. In my opinion, it's not worth the risk!
  • Thanks everyone!!
