He's okay, just hurt his hand and thumb- but it just pisses me off. He drives SO carefully all of the time and this is the second time in 4 years that somebody else has caused a serious accident involving his vehicle. A woman lost control and smashed into him head on. Vehicle is totaled, and the insurance is likely going to screw us over. We still owe about 18K on it, and even though we had full coverage, the insurance isn't going to pay out even as much as we owe, so we have to finish paying off the loan for the vehicle that has been totaled and sent off to the junk yard as well as find a new vehicle to replace this one. We had just spent a little extra on Christmas shopping yesterday, too.
To top it all off, I had gotten back from grocery shopping and the phone was ringing, so I answered it. The guy said "Hi this is so and so from the insurance company calling to follow up on the car accident from this morning." I had no idea there WAS an accident, he guy couldn't tell me anything about what had happened or if DH was even okay. Way to fail at your job, dude.
Meh. I need some brownies and ice cream.

Re: Husband was in a car accident.
Sheesh! We've paid off totaled car loan in our past too it stinks.
Hope everything works out and glad he is ok.
I was just about to write the same question. Gap insurance is often required by the lender if you do not put a large percentage down.
This. If you do, the gap ins will cover the difference between what your car ins pays and your outstanding principal on the car.
Either way, I'm so sorry that happened, especially a week before Christmas But on a positive note, your DH is okay. Cars can always be repaired or replaced, lives can't.

You definitely deserve some treats to cheer you up after today!
First, I'm really sorry to hear about this! Hopefully things turn out just fine. I'm also glad your husband is ok. Gap insurance isn't the same as collision. Gap insurance is for when you owe more on the car than what it's actually worth. It comes in handy in instances like this because with gap insurance, the insurance will cover the amount of the loan instead of the value of the car, if that makes sense.
// I love you too. //
We might have this, we have everything the bank required and it would make sense that they would want this. I'll find out tomorrow, I'm too burnt out on this today.
We've been very anti-cell phone for a long time but after today we have decided to get them ASAP.
So glad your DH is ok! I'm not sure how insurance works there, but make sure your husband reports his minor injuries to the insurance companies involved. He should receive a settlement, even if it is relatively small. Many lawyers give free consultations with respect to minor injuries and could give you an idea of what to expect.

If you do this, your medical insurance will most likely want to receive the settlement funds...
