If your LO is in daycare

A different kind of "gift" post:

I went to a dessert exchange with some of my friends last night.  I think almost all of us have kids, varying ages.  One of my friends was talking to another about her son's daycare and mentioned that one of the boys gave all the other kids Christmas cards.  It turns out it was his mom's way of announcing his last day there, but it got me thinking:

Are you doing anything for the other kids in daycare?

Feasibly I think it'd be nice, and there are only 7 other kids in LBB's daycare class.

But I also fear I'm biting off more than I can chew (as I am wont to do).

Re: If your LO is in daycare

  • I would side eye a mom giving my infant a Christmas card. It's silly and I think can come across strange and might add pressure to you and the other moms of one more thing to do.

  • I would not side eye a mom giving a kid a Christmas card but I do think it is unnecessary. However, since it was her way of announcing his last day I can see why she would do it.

I am not planning on doing anything for the kids at DS's daycare as I have no idea what their rules are, if any kids have allergies or other restriction, etc. I will buy some cookies for the teachers and hand out gift cards to DS's 2 main teachers.

  • Nope. We just get gifts for the teachers.

  • I think at our LOs' age, it's a bit much to do any kind of card or gift giving.

  • I'm torn. I think if I received one I would feel a mixture of pressure to do something in return and gratefulness at a friendly gesture from another parent.

  • I'm not, but there are moms who do it for every holiday at our daycare. I can't compete.

  • Yes, but we're expected to. Like OP, DD's daycare class is small (in-home DC) and they let us know when we signed up that they celebrate each kid's birthday and Christmas with presents. I'm spending under $10 for each kid, but you can get some pretty decent things for that much.
  • We are quite friendly with 3 of the kids and parents in C's class (even invited them to her birthday party) and we are going to get those kids a little something.
